Infinite loading screen during Beast of Toussaint

+
Hi guys, I’m having an infinite loading screen problem for the Beast of Toussaint quest. After the giant is killed there’s some conversation between geralt and the knights and geralt gets the trophy from the giant. The screen then turns black into a loading screen that loads infinitely.

I’ve tried to reload an earlier save to meet the knights again and restart the quest, and also disabled all my mods, but the issue still persists. However, starting a new game with just the blood and wine dlc (but with mods enabled) works and I am able to get past the loading after killing the giant. In fact, there is no loading at all and the quest progresses almost instantly.

I suspect that my save is corrupted, would appreciate any help to fix this!

Unfortunately, it sounds as if you're experience general mod corruption of your save file.

Installing mods is not normally an issue, but removing mods can be extremely problematic, depending on how they synergize and what sort of reference data they leave in your game. It's when something changes (a game update, certain mods get updated while other don't, or mods are removed leaving empty reference data) that players will wind up with strange glitches and/or crashes.

Your best bet is to ensure all of your mods are up-to-date and are compatible with the latest game version, then try to rebuild exactly the same mod library with exactly the same load order as you were using when the game was working. Aside from that, there's no way to remove reference data from a save file -- once a game is saved with a certain mod list running, that data will be in the save file forevermore.

Thanks for your reply! I'm not sure what you meant by rebuilding the same mod library with the same load orders as when the game was working - The issue occurred today and I did not delete, install or update any mods during this period. I was never able to progress past that point even with loading previous saves, so there isn't a "working" point that I can reference to. Also, since starting a new game with BaW only and playing through the same quest works, I don't think my mods are causing the issue?

Mods will work the same way in every game. (Not all games will experience the same issues in the same places, and there are a lot of games that are a lot more "mod-friendly" than others. But the system will always be the same.)

Whenever you load a mod or series of mods, those mods will work according to the mod load order. That order determines which part of one mod will override the changes made by other mods if and when there are conflicts. (Not all mods synergize perfectly with others.) Hence, mods that load later will prevent mods that load earlier from applying their changes for the assets that conflict. This also affects how data is saved when the game makes a save file -- the mods will be accounted for in the order that they were loaded.

Therefore, when testing to see if mods are the culprit for a problem, you'll want to ensure that you have the same mods (the library) in the same setup (load order) to ensure the game is right back where it was when the save file was first made. If not, the save file may call for information that is no longer there (the mods were removed) or are not loading when called for (the mod load order has been changed.) Either of those scenarios can result in anything from graphical corruption, to audio issues, to certain save files not loading, to crashing. Depends on the game and the specific mods.

Hi, I had the same problem with the Beast of Toussaint quest.
This solved the problem for me:
Edit user.settings with notepad++
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\Documents\The Witcher 3\user.settings
change MovieFramerate=30
to MovieFramerate=60
