Nature and/or Nurture ?

I have read conflicting reports on if there are more men than women playing video games or at least shooters and other combat included video games.

For the sake of discussion, lets say there are more men than women.

I have a theory as to why more guys play video games than women. The social evolution of a civilized world has changed faster than the evolution of men's dna and programming. The violence men are wired for is not as acceptable now as it was for many thousands of years. Where as the things in general women are wired for has not for the most case changed to be unacceptable. So simulators are desired by men for that violence where as women can still do what they do in real life. I live in a house with mostly women and they all play video games mostly FPS, but they also all grew up practicing martial arts.

Evolutionary Basis for Violence and Competition
Men have historically been wired for physical competition and violence due to evolutionary roles as hunters, protectors, and rivals for resources or mates. These instincts could manifest in modern times as a tendency to seek simulated outlets for competition and aggression, such as video games, particularly ones focused on combat or strategy.

Social Evolution Outpacing Biological Evolution
As society has become more civilized, violent behavior has become less acceptable in real life. However, the underlying instincts don't disappear overnight; instead, they might find outlets in socially acceptable forms like sports, action movies, or video games.

Women's Activities Remaining More Aligned with Social Norms
Many traits "traditionally" associated with women, such as nurturing, cooperation, and communication, creating, have generally remained valued and relevant in both ancestral and modern contexts. These traits might naturally align with societal norms, reducing the need for alternative outlets like video games.

Role of Environment and Upbringing
Cultural and environmental factors significantly influence behavior, potentially overriding some evolutionary tendencies.

Cultural Shifts and Representation in Gaming
Historically, video games were marketed primarily to boys and men, which created a self-reinforcing loop. Over time, as gaming culture has expanded and diversified, more women have entered the space, and their preferences have shaped gaming trends. Genres like FPS games, which were once thought to appeal mainly to men, now attract a broader audience.
