Oh, cops!

H'uh, good God y'all, what are they good for?

They are crime scenes...sometimes in progress, sometimes stashes left by criminals.

V is a NCPD subcontractor. Go to the scenes, eliminate the criminals there or otherwise handle the situation. Gather loot, get a payout. You also gain XP and Street Cred.

Have fun!

The software added to your first Kiroshis by Vik gives you access to those and other police things. Go get em.

29th level, 40 street cred, the entirety of Watson cleared of NCPD sites right there in the map image, and yet...

NC is a crime rich place.
Good luck not getting caught yourself for every pedestrian that was run over. ^^

Where else would test all these iconics? I personally like, where the game is not only about cutscenes and small action pieces in between, but gives you the opportunity to use all the weapons, perks you acquired, NCDP scanners are the best for that.

My favourite part, is when you go and actually do the Cops job for them...

...They'll then start trying to take YOU down.

Like bruh, if you have all these resources to take down the merc who's doing your job... Why can't you handle a couple of gangbangers tormenting some civilians?

The enemy of my enemy is my friend until… you know ;)

I felt like a police officer at times ngl
Whenever I play a game, especially roleplaying games, I always end up playing a few levels and restarting half a dozen times just to understand the systems and rules and world so that I can play a character the way I actually want to play it.

The first time I played, I was like, "I'm not gonna do the cops jobs for them by being a fucking cop!"

Then I realised that I'm playing a mercenary and this is my home where if I ain't gonna fix the problems, then the cops, who are part of the problem, sure as hell ain't.

So I now think of myself as a City-Wide Custodian.

Bottom line it’s quite simple V is merc - cops pay mercs for reinforcements. Those are just regular jobs for mercs: Cash, money, money ^^

Just started Sinnerman.

Cop van with him in it passes by. Van turns in front of a cop car. Cop car slams into van. Van continues as if nothing happened. Cop car considers it a traffic violation and pursues. Aggressively. Runs over and outright kills several pedestrians.

I kinda hope this isn't a bug as at least then it'd be a commentary on the police.

It makes as much sense as Geralt going around every corner of the map killing bandits and clearing out hideouts. It's common open world game design to dot the world with things to kill for XP and loot.

The cop AI is still a bit too twitchy. They shouldn't react to you firing at criminals at the site of a scanner hustle (unless you harm bystanders) since often they are the ones ASKING you to do it! But now I gotta be careful when doing a scanner mission near a street that there aren't any beat cops wandering by when I open fire or I will get a star.

I've also had cops come after me because THEY ran me over with their cop car. What? Did I scratch your paint job? That's a death sentence? Chill!

My favorite part is responding to an NCPD Scanner job and there are cops on the corner across the street.

They do nothing UNLESS a bullet specifically from your gun ricochets and hits a random pedestrian... THEN they're on your butt.

I am certain I've had them attack me even if I don't have any ricochets or area damage a civilian. Either that or maybe it was return fire from bad guys hitting civies and the cops just went after everyone involved because of it.

I've had them eyeball me just from walking past. Possible that you didn't notice the eyeball until they became hostile.

With a weapon drawn they will eyeball you. Bumping into them, even a little, and they may go hostile. But just walking on the street with no weapon out I don't think I've had that happen.

I'm starting to think too that the beat cops are different than the ones that spawn for random firefights with gangs. I've helped those guys and not gotten cop aggro for it. Sometimes they even thank you for it! But the beat cops seem not to like you doing anything with a weapon if they can see it. Doesn't matter what.
