This is starting to get ugly (just like the subject matter). So, let's keep it in check or, better yet, let it go altogether, when you are at risk of breaking the forum regulations.
You do understand that rape is not gender specific right?
Both men and women are raped, so having a traumatic event prior the story beginning does nothing to define a gender, only a shitty situation.
You are right, I missed the defining V as a she part. gotcha. You missed my point friend. I meant that in the classification reports, the writers are careful not giving V any gender, always saying "the player" or "the main character".
While the person sexually assaulted is defined as a "she". So it would make no sense to suddendly talk about V using "she".
(Sorry if I've been out of line or badly explaining, I'll stop answering. I just wanted to reassure CyberBrett and it seems they understood what I meant.)
I don't know why, but this hit me so hard, made my day. Thank you. This is the only response I can really find (the specific moment of this video at this time)
We've all been raised on violence and gore.
What about Hanzel und gretyl getting kidnapped by a cannibal Witch, which they throw, alive, in a burning oven?
Now, yeah, there are actual reason you don't show porn to kids.
As I said earlier, that game WILL ends up in kids hands, as every game did, from Mortal Kombat to GTA. (Cause that's how it is, we all played game we shouldn't have, you can blame parents as much as you want, kids will always do things in their back, I remember knowing kids that smoked pot and cigarettes when I was like 12... So...)
Also, the game is distributed by WB, a big wide selling machine.
You can be sure it'll be toned down to acceptable level to make sure the game makes maximal profit while keeping the most faithful adaptation of that world, but it has limits.
That game should be legit even without sex, violence and gore.
Remember that people will most likely stream their gameplay on YouTube, Twitch, etc...
So, I guess we can expect something pretty soft.
CDPR wants to tell a mature story, so, sure, it'll will involve sex, nods to sex, some kinky scenes.
It's a mature setting in which sexuality is present, yes, but I don't think overusing sex and having 10mn long interactive sex scenes or very detailled pénétration adds anything.
The game is splattered all over the place, so it'll be played by a loooots of different people/age.
Sure, I'd love to have a cool gore system with brain and guts splattered all over the place, but as for sex, it won't add much to the game, it would probably hurt it more with pueril scandals (some people only wait for that to ban it).
Videogames have less freedom than movie or music simply because it's a different media and it's often played by youth (more time on their hands and they tend to consume more), the softer your game is, the more you'll be able to sell it, and given the cost of that game, they need to sell a lot of it, so just do the math.
An underground movie or music band can do whatever they want. It costs way less.
For a AAA game, they have to find the right middle so it can be acceptable on a more large audience, it's how business work (remember the game hatred, it was just an edgy dude killing people for no reason and people freaked out, I don't remember such outrage for movies like human centipede or A Serbian Film, it's a different media and a different style of story telling).
They have tons of people to pay, a big budget, they have to make concessions.

Seemingly, female V gets raped at some point.
Should we live that scene with full nudity and seeing everything ?
Sure, that may be a good slap in the face with how ugly that world is, but you can probably understand why it would be way more tasteful if it's only suggested.
In short, I've nothing against extreme violence or nudity, but I can get why they'd need to find the right middle for it to be acceptable by differents culture and probably add a switch to remove some blood or genitals.
Just like the USA have a thing for their guns that is kinda "alien" for an european folk.
While in europe women go topless to the beach without much trouble while american folks seems more sensible to that.
Différents cultures, differents shock value :/
I'm not really sure what the argument that is being made here is. If it's pro-censorship I can say in the most polite and kind and nicest way possible that I don't care what argument is being made if it's being made for supporting censorship because it's always a logically unsound argument and I can explain exactly why. If I understood correctly, the reason for supporting the censorship of the game is because it will eventually somehow make it into the hands of people who shouldn't have gotten their hands on it, and that for this reason, the game must preemptively be censored to protect people, but I must ask, WHO will protect the people who want an artistically free and passionately made UNCENSORED experience? WHO will protect us from everyone who wants us to have a lessened and diminished experience for the sake of saving people from their own responsibilities to protect their younger family members by simply playing the game behind a locked door, and placing the game inside a locked drawer or using a good computer password? But you are ok with your children hearing the profanity and seeing the violence and gore?

It's Cyberpunk guys, not a Marvel movie...
The main protagonist get raped in RDR2, so no reason it couldn't happens here (if it's been ok there, I guess it can be ok in such a setting).
That would probably sets a good reason to hate the bad guy even more.
So yeah, you can get beaten, tortured, you can abuse people (pay for sex with a prostitute, I don't really see it as a healthy thing...), there are police brutality, but oh no, don't rape my character...
You can turn it in any side, the text clearly talks about V, which has been raped, which is saddly a reality that happens in the world, like police brutality and poverty, it's how our sad world works and I'd actually be pleasingly surprised if CDPR had the balls to put such grim and realistic outcome in their game...
You want a grim and gritty realistic world? You want sex without censor?
Now, guess what would happens if a sexy girl would be the hostage of a bunch of sleavy streetpunks?
It's not funny, it's not cute, it's how a mature story would play out...
The thought of it does shock you? Well, that's the point.
It's not a cool world in which you're the super-hero, if it's actually played like that, I'd be pretty impressed, it means that they really portrayed a world just as shitty as it should be.
Most girl, IRL, don't walk alone at night for that very reason, so yeah, drop your rainbow glasses, no reason V couldn't have such things happening to her...
If it's really well written, it could actually be a very powerful story moment...
How to depict a pure motherfucking bad guy than one that let your character get raped?...
At the moment we only saw the "nice part" of night city, fun and all.
I wouldn't be surprised if we would face such horrid things.
Rape isn't a funny subject, it's not because you're the main character that it couldn't happens to you, I'd find it more impactful if it would happens to me, rather than a random side quest character I don't give a damn.
You want immersion in a fucked up world? You have it.
Kudos to CDPR if they really pulled their balls out and put the player in front of such dilemna.
"People abuse people on every level".
You really expected an oversexualisation of that game to show only the good things? There will most likely be such ugly thing and I'm really pleasingly surprised that CDPR throw them at our face.
It's supposed to shake you up, and seemingly it works well...
If it's part of the story, so be it. I don't like it, but that's the point, It's going to make me feel something for my character, or for another character. I'm gonna feel feelings, and I'm going to make sure that the villains in the game face the same level of consequences for their actions as V does. Emotional investment is a huge part of immersion. OF COURSE Nobody wants this in real life, and nobody would ever want this in real life, but these horrible things are a reality in the very cruel world we live in, and Cyberpunk2077 is not just some random video game, it's a reflection of our world, and a warning of a possibly worse future. It's truly a beautiful thing because it is a guide book for humanity that shows us exactly what NOT to do while we are early and soon enough to catch ourselves and actually still have a chance to change our course for the better. You do understand that rape is not gender specific right?

By the same logic that the game will eventually find its way into the hands of children, Should we also ban all knives, blenders, hammers, nails, and every other tool just because these things are commonly found in every single house's kitchen or garage in the world, just because children can possibly find them?
Should we ban soup because it might be too hot?
Should we ban soap because children or really anybody might slip and fall down because soap is slippery?
Maybe we should just ban everything in life, because everything is dangerous.
Or, we could just be responsible people, parents, brothers, and sisters, and let everyone just live life, because covering everything in the entire world with excessive and unnecessary red tape until every single last person also has red tape covering their own mouths and every artist or movie maker or game developer has red tape covering their fingers and all of their customers and fans have red tape covering their eyes never once made life easier or safer, only slower and more tedious and less fun. Red Tape and Censorship take the expression and the passion and the creativity out of art, and make art, essentially not art any more because it is no longer what the artist envisioned.
Not a single thing we do as human beings is ever going to make life stop being life. Life is life. We can try to avoid this fact and live in constant fear of everything (including things that are not really a big problem, and also incredibly easily solvable issues), or we can accept it and learn from it and become better human beings and finally move on. Hiding from the truth does not make the truth less true, it makes us less true.

I hope everything I said in this post is taken in the nicest kindest most polite way possible with the best intentions, and I hope I did very well at conveying understanding in a way that was calm and reasonable. I hope everyone can in good faith give me the benefit of the doubt and understand my points without feeling as if I am being troublesome. I hope that I in some way made sense, and somehow helped share some perspective that helped somehow. I just really feel like all these things really needed to be said for a very long time and I feel like I can finally breath a little bit more easily now, and I hope you all have a nice day or a good night. Peace.
What is "True Censorship"? What would "False Censorship" be then?People are asking for an ingame option to Censor Certain things for them, not to have the game be Censored by a third party for everyone.
True, Censorship, is mostly wrong and ineffective, but clearly, not having things like Graphic Sex or Genital Customization won't have any effect on the actual game, if these things were not implemented in the game from the start, nobody would've even think about it let alone complain about it, let alone calling these things artistic to justify it for some personal reason, it definitely should not be Censored with an Iron fist, but no need to justify it with a million different philosophical excuses either, best way to be protect yourself from harm on your humanity is Critical thinking, no need to Censor but it is needed to educate yourself and your children enough so they will be able to know what is good and what is bad themselves, want to play Cyberpunk? Why not, but there is no need to agree and justify every single thing implemented and stated in the game, you can play the game, enjoy it, while being aware that certain things in it were wrong, and I'm not talking about the things in the world of Cyberpunk, I mean things that are wrong with the game itself.
I would agree to having an option to turn on/off nudity and swearing and blood.
Yes, the setting itself is mature, but having the option just allows more reach.
I agree. I personally wont be censoring my game, BUT I have friends that have kids. and they've told me before how hard it is for them to even get any time to even play a game in with having a fulltime job and a wife that doesn't share their interest in gaming... On top of that, they have to be careful what they play as they don't want to expose their children to things they're too young to see, words they might repeat, and images that may cause nightmares..
So I'm 100% on board with OPTIONAL censor blurs and bleeps..
CP2077 is a game for adults with themes for adults, even if you censor the said content there is still enough left that is not suitable for children.
I can understand that there are people who personally have a problem with these topics and if it is censored why not, but not to make the game accessible to a younger audience.
Its not about making the game accessible for younger audiences. its about recognizing that not everyone has a private game room and/or can just wait till everyone goes to be and stay up till 1:30 in the morning playing. I know a lot of people that have wives and kids that have to do their gaming in the livingroom, and also have to be in bed at 9;00 at night, and a lot of them are getting tired of playing fortnight, so as not to expose their kids to mature content. lol
Out of curiosity, do you really need to be around your kids? Like, are they old enough to be in a seperate room by themselves? If that's the case why not game in your bedroom. Its not about making the game accessible for younger audiences. its about recognizing that not everyone has a private game room and/or can just wait till everyone goes to be and stay up till 1:30 in the morning playing.
