Do you think retailers like Amazon, GameStop, WalMart etc have been informing customers the last couple days when they sell this game: "This PS4 copy of Cyberpunk does not boot unless you disconnect from the internet or disable auto update. It is sold As Is, restricted to offline Version 1.00 indefinitely."
Imagine if an auto manufacturer released an update that made 1 in every 7 cars not start. Imagine if a smartphone maker released an update that made 1 in every 7 phones not power on. And then you, the customer, goes in and buys one of these non-functioning devices at full price with zero heads-up from the retailer. How are you gonna feel when you go to start your new car and it won't turn on? How are you gonna feel if you go to start your new phone and it won't power on? They already have your money.
Then you go to the retailer, you ask, Did you know about this? When will my car be able to start? Why are you selling something you don't know doesn't work and you don't know when it will be fixed? And you accepted my money like what you were selling me was a normal functioning product when it isn't at all, and you should know that.
So retailers now find themselves in the position Sony was in with digital copies, and they pull all PS4 discs from the shelves because they don't wanna be sued or whatever their lawyers advise them. Meanwhile CDPR finds themselves in a position where PS4 discs are no longer sold anywhere, which will help them choke out PS4 support until they can finally focus exclusively on current gen and PC.
Perhaps the reason we're not seeing this issue correctly, adequately reported on the largest game media sites is that those sites have 3rd party ad deals with retailers that sell Cyberpunk PS4 discs, and the lawyers of those retailers who are selling those discs know that it's not a good grey area they're getting drug through by CDPR. There's some interesting facets in this as far as retailer's obligation to inform customers in this kind of situation and customer's expectations of being able to update a game or connect a game to the internet. Think about it.
