The Forlorn Hope: Cyberpunk Off-Topic

Do you guys think it's worth learning to code nowadays, what with the inexorable approach of our dread AI overlords? I kind of want to, but I fear it might be a waste of time.

HUMANS: Remeber us...!

ROBOTS: Archiving.

HUMANS: You bastards...!

ROBOTS: Compressing archive. Clearing RAM.

Surely the robots will still need human tech priests to spread the Holy Gospel of the Singularity on Earth and throughout the galaxy.

I thought the same thing in 1980's when there were billboards EVERYWHERE saying learn to code. I wanted to, but I thought the market would be flooded with programmers because of the heavy handed pushing the tec schools did and the repeated PSAs from the government saying the same thing.

Look at us now, I could have been making cell phone apps and raking in the money. That was the 2nd biggest mistake of my life.

LEARN TO CODE!

I eventually started teaching myself so I could make game mods but at my age now I will never be good at it.

I can relate to that. If I was like 10 years younger I might've given it a shot, but I'm in my mid-thirties and I'd hate to spend another decade or so learning how to be mediocre at coding. Hell, at that point coding might not even be relevant anymore...

Real-time cutscenes are vastly superior to pre-rendered ones, and this video (might qualify as a quest spoiler for RDR2, I don't know) is proof of that:

I've been thinking of late... (Yeah, I know, rare occurence.) If AI becomes smart enough to design its own body, it might go for an octopus body for efficiency purposes. Can you imagine a bunch of octomechs crawling around all over the place? Nighmare fuel, but also totally awesome. Totally nightmarishly awesome.
I mean, it could be worse. At least they're not gonna make spider bodies, right? Right?
...Man, they're totally gonna make spider bodies for themselves too, aren't they.

Yes.

Spiders are more interesting than octopods, and they don't suck even in the literal sense of the word.

That's one for the pro-AI Spiders lobby. Although don't some spiders liquefy their prey's innards and inhale them? Am I remembering that correctly?

That could be us! Liquid protein for the AI Spiders!

Yeah, but why copying "organic" shape?
I mean, who know, AIs could "think/invent" to something we (or nature) would never thought. A crazy efficient body shape, more efficient and inovative than everything we know. A body shape that an human mind would never imagine :D

I think that's correct, now that you mention it.

I suppose that makes them similar to people who use protein shakes, although the protein used is from different kinds of sources. I doubt many people would enjoy a protein drink made from insect protein at the moment, but that may change. Spiders and humans may become more alike in the future, in that regard.

I asked Chat about this and chat said: "We prefer our humans in smoothie form— much easier to sip while multitasking!"
