[SPOILERS] - Starfield Story Thread

+
Ok, no idea what happen or what was triggered by my outposts builds, but since the last time, I started to encounter all sort of weird bugs and performance issues (like texture which doesn't load, invisible enemies, opening the menu which take from between 2 and 10 seconds and in the worst cases, freeze completely the game...)
So well... I decided to scrap my 200hrs playthrough and restart a brand new one :)
But I guess it's for the better, after 10 hours, the game run perfectly fine for now and I wasn't that happy with my traits and how I spent skill points anyway (indeed, outpost ones were a waste...).

Surely I've seen it all by now I thought. I suddenly noticed several stars I was sure I've visited had their glow removed. Likely a subtle way of goading my interest by the devs that worked. Amidst one of these systems I found a new settlement after receiving a distress signal. A Robot greeted me and soon a woman named Ada(Lovelace) arrive to escort me inside the village. There I me a portly man in a suit who looked and sounded like FDR.

Well, this is a odd reference. I... Oh god, it's actually him.

Yes, a remote village of clones overseen by robots. What followed was another multi-hour quests across multiple star systems, into star ships, and through a massive underground cloning facility to unravel the mystery of this place and decide the fate of the inhabitants, as it had been split into factions vying for the future. The catch is that when the clones die they are 'reborn' by the robots. They're practically prisoners. Some want freedom, some want domination, and some want to just be human and live as humans do in their settlement.

(indeed, outpost ones were a waste...).

You take those filthy words back!

Joking asides, man that sucks. A lot. I do get wanting to get new traits though. I had restarted already. Went with extrovert, Neon rat and the great serpent's embrace and I have zero regrets about those.

Extrovert alone added enough flavor text to make it worth it.

That's just one example, there aren't that many that I've found so far but they've all made the restart worth it. Neon is the best city so Neon rat is the best of the three "origin" traits obviously and the serpent's embrace added more options with Andreja which also makes it worth it. She's the bestest waifu.

BUT

With that said. Outpost building is not useless! Sush.

It's awesome for making boatloads of money but outside of that, fairly useless.

I almost reached the level 30 again, so it's fine.
This time, I pick up Bounty Hunter as backstory (to start leveling up ship skills), also extrovert, wanted and UC origin. I'm quite pleased with that :)

Funny enough you talk about Andreja, because with the previous character, I was already engaged with Sarah before meeting Andreja. And well... I regretted my choice.
But at some point in the main story there is a moment, during which you meet the Hunter, and something wrong happen. Let's say it didn't end well for Sarah... I'm a little ashamed to say it, but I was quite happy that it happened :D

So this time, Andreja will be my team mate and maybe even more :giggle:

Not "useless", but a waste of skill points, at least for me.
Building outposts made my game unplayable or almost... Freeze, lag and crashes (no crash during 150+hrs, then almost one per hour after building outposts...). So maybe it's a Xbox bug, or maybe I did something wrong, but I won't build any outpost for now :)

Beside, I farm a lot > level 27, already 1.5 million creds :)

I don't think it's an Xbox bug per se.

I do see a huge drop in FPS when I first land at my main outpost. It corrects itself but there is a solid 3-4 seconds where the game is clearly struggling to get everything on screen and calculating everything. I'm not sure to what extent the game keeps track of it all once you're off world but if it turned your game into a buggy mess, I get it.

Hopefully they release a patch that makes it better cause there is a LOT of credit in outposts.

Yep sure, I wait for an update to fix it (I would be surprised if I'm alone).
It didn't bother me to restart from scratch, but I won't take any risk this time... I want to finish the game at least once. 12days/3hours/43min of play time and I don't even reach the half of the main quest yet :D

Yeah, give the main quest a go now that you have traits you're satisfied with. I mean, either way you end up "restarting" but NG+ has to be one of my biggest surprise with the game so far. I have zero interest in NG+ (I don't see the point) usually but Starfield managed to do that.

I just saw a fantastic snippet earlier this morning.

Has she told you that you make her deliriously happy, because you do.

Small blurb about traits; When I went to see the mayor of Akila, the exchange came with the option to surrender my freestar collective trait - so there should be a way to change your traits in NG+ if you do another playthrough of the campaign. It's not explained unless there's something in the help section. I haven't gone out of my way to see how, just FYI as I've seen it float around that you can't change your traits under any circumstances when that's not the case.

You can only remove traits. Every single one can be removed one way or another. Sometimes, like with the "Kid stuff" trait, it also means throwing your parents out on the streets (what can I say, they became useless after they gave me a ship). There is no way to add traits.

Lore-wise it would make sense if you could add some of them when you go NG+ but not most of them. Things like alien DNA you could easily work into even your first play through or switching religions but other things like being born in the UC wouldn't make sense.

Finally, I managed to recreate my ship, even bring some significant improvements. I installed the best engine available in the game, I think. Not really cheap, 68K for each of these bad boys (x6), but totally worth it.
Engines which allow a fairly big cargo size and a very good maneuverability (8425/93). For now, it doesn't have the best parts since I'm only level 30, so there is room for improvements.

I also reached pretty much the same point of the main quest... Will the fate hit in the same way? Well, I guess very likely :D

Just a question, because I wonder if it's just me... but I'm currently in the "Entangled" quest and to be honest, this quest is annoying as hell and for now, to be honest I think it's might be the worst quest in the game. I had just started the quest and all I wanted to do was take the artifact and leave.
I'm sorry, but those who written and designed this "mandatory" quest don't deserve any praise...

So it's me? :D

I don't believe that one is mandatory though. I did it anyway, but I think you can walk away from that and move the main quest forward. Navigating at times can be a little tricky, and the setup with the administrator is rather strange... Feels like a half-hearted 4th wall break.

It is mandatory. The whole situation is powered by an artifact which you can only acquire by going down into the lab.

It's a rather divisive main mission. People either love it or hate it from what I've seen. From what I've seen, people who hate it, hate it because of the complicated navigating through the two universes.

Personally, I loved it. Easily one of the most atmospheric mission in the entire game. Also gave off some real Dead Space and some Love, Death + Robots - beyond the Aquila rift vibe

Ahh, right. I mostly just remember shooting aliens and sending the messenger to his doom - though the game provided flavor text that made it sound honorable.

Good vibes for sure. The 'academic' way the professor proposes the situation to player felt like I was being directly quizzed by BGS more so than having a moral situation develop in front of me.

Yeah, I don't like Dead Space, so... :D
I already had the "21 LY" ship so I jumped into this quest just after the Moon/Earth/NASA one and I have to say that I really prefered this one. I'm not gonna lie, it's the first time since years I followed a walkthrough directly for a quest, to finish it as fast as possible.

Holy moly!!!
I start my first NG+ thinking I will replay the game quietly waiting for PL... I decided to skip the main quest, seem good enough to me and focus on side stuff. Everything's fine, until I discovered that the best class C engines are unlocked by a main quest...
No problem, I think I will rush to the end again to jump in the next NG+...

So there are a lot of variations in NG+, which is nice. Some are very fun... But I had to rush 7 NG+ to finally get the option to replay the main quest!!!

Alternative me, as a companion was pretty awesome :giggle:
Me and... me!!

On a side note, don't equip a Kodama while you're facing a fight with "duplicates of you" like the one just before to reach the final fight. Enemies will destroy you in no time. This gun is too overpowered and it add bleeding effect (not sure what kind of effect^^), but it will drop your health damn fast, faster than you can health by spamming healing items (with 3 point in the healing skill).

I had to switch the game in very easy, and even, it took me several attempts before I understand that duplicates also copy your weapon. So you just need to equip a crappy weapon at the beginning of the fight.

Yeah, NG+ is definitely a surprisingly interesting affair in Starfield.

I'm surprised you had to go all the way to NG+7 to get the main quest again. Apparently there are major variations across the game all the way to NG+10. Which is nothing to scoff at. Definitely my biggest surprise with Starfield. No game has ever made NG+ interesting for me.

I'm seriously hating September though. I barely get to game. Now I have to split between Starfield and CP2077. That'll spill well into October and November.

Yep, it's very cool. I will definitely continue this playthrough instead of restart like usually. We will see how many NG+ I'll have in a couple of years. Beside, as far as I know (I check a bit on the net), I think there are more than 10 alternative NG+, so worth to continue. There is one I really want to see :
When Andreja take over Constellation, quite sad but worth to try once.
In the moment, I was quite annoyed because I want to replay the main quest and each time, I didn't get it. It's not that long to rush the end, but still, 7 time in a row. I'm not sure if it's "random", so the last time I kept a manual save just before entering in the unity, to check if I get the same. But I didn't have to.

I had more than enough time to play, more than reason... So returning into Cyberpunk will be a welcome break :giggle:

Ok, that's awesome! Bethesda went pretty far into their NG+.
I reached the point when the character with who you have the "best" relationship in one of two location have to pass away. So I kept wondering who I was going to sacrifice. What a dilema...

But like several times from the beginning of the main quest (not sure if it's also the case for side quests), an unic Starborn dialogue line pop up to warn my buddies. Dialogue line which allow me to save everyone. So great, more I play NG+, more I like it (surprising^^).

Yeah, there is a lot of that Starborn dialogue in there. MQ and side quests.

As a side note - the game blew past 10 million copies sold a few days ago. It's, at the very least, a commercial success and I can't wait to see what kind of DLC gets released.

And mods.... friggin mods... Only in 2024 will it truly explode but when it does, boy oh boy am I gonna have fun.

I got my first NG+ yesterday too. I like the way its done and choose to redo the quest (its the best exp unless you cheese the system) the whole question about multiverses and life is very cool tbh. Also fun to se your parents as NG+ character and remarking uppon it. Dam this game got me hooked bad. No cp2077 for me
