Anyone kinda surprised 1.6 isn’t out yet?

So, the longer this patch comes the more I'm intrigued about it. I figured it would be a major patch, but no bigger then 1.5. Thus I thought it could come out by May... yet here we are. The end of June, what might as well be July. We haven't had a major or minor patch since March. I dunno, maybe I'm just getting impatient with this patch.

Patch 1.31 > Sep 14, 2021
Patch 1.5 > Feb 15, 2022
With nothing between these two updates.
I'd be carefull with such comparisons, as they are pretty much supporting the notion that 1.6 should have been released already or should be just around the corner. In theory 1.5 was composed of two major releases (hypothetical 1.4 and 1.5) in a 6 months span, so as we are now 3 months past last hotfix (1.52) such raw dates comparison may actually work to the disadvantage of the game and fuel the impatience.

I'm expecting it to arrive around August/September to coincide with the Edgerunners anime, support is still working on squashing bugs too, so a couple more months seems realistic to me.

Hoping it'll be substantial with a few little pieces of free DLC included.

Nope, "maybe" the 1.6 will be skipped too, "maybe" the 1.7 will be skipped too, no one know. We know that on Cyberpunk, CDPR "mostly" work on expansion. I suppose the next update would probably contain less bugs fixes, but more improvements/reworks/adjustments/qol features (maybe even a NG+ DLC) which require also a bunch of work (maybe way more than just "bug fixing").

I imagine that CDPR isn't responsible of players impatience... (they fuel it themself...) So as they did since the game release, CDPR would released updates/patches/DLCs when it will be ready.

I imagine it is taking a while because they released a kind of "half baked" transmog system with 1.5 and are finishing it up. So I imagine they are adding a bit of polish to it and making sure it works right.

On top of that I think they still "owe" on a fair amount of DLC that was promised. I imagine some of that is actual new content like a few new gigs or something as opposed to just a new outfit for one of the characters or something like that.

I also imagine there will be plenty of bug fixes, balance adjustments and things of that nature.

Some people are saying it won't be as big as 1.5. That might be the case given that the team size working on it has shrunk... but if they take another 2-3 months I could see it being as big or even bigger if it ends up having additional gigs.

Not surprised at all.

It's obvious we'll get a patch between now and the expansion's release but there is no telling when. I expect July/August/September with probably no patch until the expansion after that.

I'm pretty certain it will be another sizeable patch that'll add the final free DLCs, fix a few more bugs, probably throw in a few QoL improvements as well as some system improvements. It'll revitalize the game a bit and get people talking about it again before they announce what the expansion is about a few months later.

They don't want to generate too much hype and you don't want to let the game fade into obscurity neither. CP2077 has a fairly decent redemption arc following it's horrible launch a, well timed, solid patch a bit before the reveal will do wonders to solidify that and help drive expansion sales higher.

This is exactly why i recommend caution with such raw dates comparisons. We don't know how many changes had happened since 1.5 release, what's the focus of future updates, what's the status of the team (number of people, experience, etc.) working on patches. Simply stating:
Patch 1.31 > Sep 14, 2021
Patch 1.5 > Feb 15, 2022
With nothing between these two updates.
is an oversimplification of the development process and can fuel the impatience of some on the notion that "based on previous updates timeframe the next patch should already be here".

I hadn't stated that they are responsible.

No cause one of the posts on Google said that the new patches won't be ready until sometime next year

I'm not sure what you've read but it is not representative of what CDPR themselves have said.

Like @strangerr3 said, they literally said this year for 1.6 during the investors call

Just in case people can't be bothered to read or search the transcript past the first paragraph, here is the relevant bit:

And this is our goal with the next large update - 1.6 - (planned for
this year) and then an expansion (planned for the next one).

Straight from the horse's mouth.

Oh my.

Well CDPR did kind of release a broken game. So broken it got taken off of the Playstation store... and I am not sure that has ever happened before. The game was also missing a lot of content that was teased or promised before the game. It was one of the worst launches in gaming history - so bad other companies are rethinking how they do things because of it.

The general consensus seems to be the game wasn't really "complete" or "fixed" until 1.5, which was put in place like a year and multiple months after the original game released.

It will also be over two years since the original release until the expansion finally comes out... and they have begun talking in terms of a single expansion rather than multiple, as they promised earlier in the product's lifecycle.

So I would say that they are at least a little bit responsible for their fans angst and annoyance. And by a little bit I mean they are responsible for a lot of it. There is a reason why they were widely praised as the best developer in the business after The Witcher 3... and there is a reason their reputation is in the trashcan right now... and that is their fault, not the consumer's fault.

With the summer vacations around the corner, I wouldn't expect anything before September. And honestly I'm not surprised, altough CDPR did mention they wanted to move to a more Agile dev methodology, but corporate culture changes like that can take months, or even years. Usually with Agile you release more often, but having said that it does have its downsides : more versions == more updates for end users, more certifications (for consoles), and more chances to break something.

And just think about all the different versions they have to support, different code branches, for old console hardware too! (I've said it before but Cyberpunk should have been next-gen only).
