Help! I cant seem to escape the Dungeons of the La Valettes

Hello all,

Newbie hear so sorry if this sounds stupid or is in the wrong category.

Im liking the look of this game and am having fun but I seem to be stuck in these dungeons. I have killed the first set of guards in the dungeon and proceeded down through the trap door and in to the room with the executioner. When I look through the peephole to see who he is torturing, there is no prisoner. I have looked and apparently there are two choices depending on how you played the previous story out. Is this glitched or am I incredibly stupid and missing something? Wouldnt rule out the latter! I have looted everything possible and dont see any key to be found and the person I convinced to surrender (sorry cant remember his name) does nothing. All it does is keep telling me to get rid of the guards. Also worth noting that the guard in the executioner room respawns everytime I go back.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Im on the xbox by the way. Thankyou.

Either it's glitched or you already triggered a different way out of the dungeon.

You can encounter Aryan or the Baroness (depending on whether you spared Aryan earlier) before you reach the executioner's room. If you do, that triggers a different path through the quest, one that does not involve the executioner.

You still have to deal with the guards. But the guards you have to deal with are not on the path through the executioner's room; they are on the path to the exit from the point you encountered Aryan or the Baroness.

Must be glitched then because I dont remember seeing either of those two on the way. Aryan is just sat on the floor doing nothing. The baroness I didnt encounter once. Funny I cant seem to find a bug on this, normally it will be all over the internet. Gutted I will have to start over again I suppose. No xbox live so I cant download a patch if there is one.

If you have Aryan sitting on the floor, you may be in the situation where you have to deal with the last guards before you reach the exit. From where he is, see if you can find a way to go up some stairs and into a larger storeroom patrolled by four guards. Once you have dealt with these guards, you should get a quest update, and you should be able to go back to Aryan, help him stand up, and proceed.

If that doesn't help, you'll probably have to start over. Sorry, but this is not a well-known glitch; maybe some others will have suggestions, though.

Ok so at one end of the map ( not quite sure where becaue im on painting duties!) There is a single door, I presume this is the way out because thats the only door that I cant seem to get passed. The door is sort of covered at the bottom a bit with some moss/plant. When I stand by the door there are two red dots either directly above or below me, not in the room that I cant get in but the corridor that im stood in.

I cant seem to find a way to get up/down there and the cats eye potion didnt seem to show the guard when loking up or down.

I must be incredibly rubbish at this game lol.

There's at least three ways to get out of the Dungeon.

The first is that if you killed Aryan earlier, his mother is being tortured and Shilard will help cover your escape.

The second has Aryan being tortured in place of his mother if you convinced him to surrender.

The third, and which I only encountered on my most recent playthrough, is that if you kill a particular guard, get his key, and open a door on the level above Geralt's own cell you can interrupt the guards escorting Aryan to be tortured. Possibly you could interrupt them taking Aryan's mother to be tortured, but I convinced him to surrender and haven't tried it. Aryan will then sit down near a column and wait for Geralt to knock off all the patrolling guards.

This took me a while to do because there was one guard wandering around who, in Three Stooges fashion, would always walk around a corner or behind a wall whenever I was near him. That was extremely frustrating, since it took me about a half an hour and several reloads (thinking something was glitched) to find and kill him.

What I think may be happening is that you've missed the corridoor you need to go down. When walking around, look for side passages; I can't remember the dungeons very well and it is a bit labyrinthine any way, but this spoileriffic walkthrough is pretty detailed and should help a bit.

I must of walked around 20 times and see no other route, but what I am going to do later is map out every room and search a few more times just to make sure. I will come back tonight when I have finished my duties and update you if I managed to do it.

Thanks for the link, I did stumble on that earlier but not sure what one is mine, I think standard Aryan route but not totally sure. I persuaded him to surrender on top of the castle and when in the dungeouns there is a cutscene where he knocks out a couple of guards and asks for my help killing the rest. he then just sits there like a lemon. There must be more guards because that is what it keeps telling me to do! I did see the two level maps on that link you provided so I will have a gander.

Also a bit off topic. The converation options in this game, do they make your character good/bad on what you choose? I remember at the beggining the king asked if I thought he did a good job or something and I wasnt sure what to say so I just agreed, even though I though he was an idiot. Do they change the story, or is that just from the actions you do in the game?

There is no per se "good or bad" character in the game but your decisions matter in the game. Sometimes you will make a decision and not find out about the consequences of that decision until much later in the act or game.

Yes, if Aryan knocked out the guards, then you are on the "Aryan La Vallette Standard Version". The key move in this sequence is (quoting the Wiki) "after talking to him, take the stairs to the left of the door you came through." The way to these stairs is in the same room where you found Aryan. There's a short flight up, then a T, with a dead end to the left and another flight of stairs up to the right. The room at the top is a big storeroom, with four guards to dispose of.

If the game is working right for you, you will get an update after you have dealt with all four guards. If you have definitely cleared all of the guards out of that room, and you do not get an update, and you cannot go back and interact with Aryan, you're pretty much certainly glitched.
