Self Help / Fix it Guide - Mega Thread

Master PC Fix Thread

These are common things to check and try before asking for help and I built this thread so I can point people to it instead of repeating myself. I am NOT official with CDPR and I do not work with them, I do this to help people during my free time while they wait for support, fixes, etc...

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING! BACK UP YOUR DATA! I MEAN IT!
I am not responsible if you lose data and/or ruin hardware, these are common practices and if such thing does happen you had/have a bigger underlining problem.
Note: If you have off topic questions please inbox message me don't derail the thread please.
Note: If I missed something let me know!

Common Items to Check

First Things First!
Checkout your system (It's like a car you need to keep it in good working order.)
  1. Backup your data, wait what? Backup your data! AND I forgot to mention that you need to... BACKUP YOUR DATA!!!

  2. Run a memtest (AT LEAST 1 COMPLETE CYCLE!)
    http://www.memtest86.com/ (Official Original)
    http://www.memtest.org/ (Unofficial Extra)

  3. Run a Hard Drive Test (Quick Test is fine if it's a newer hard drive, if it's a older couple+ years hard drive or showing signs of issues try the long test.)
    http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ (Seagate Drives)
    http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810&sid=3&lang=en (Western Digital)

  4. Double Check Windows Files (Using the SFC command)
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833/en-us

  5. Make sure you have the latest video drivers (Double Check)
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers (Nvidia)
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download (AMD)

  6. Make sure you have an antivirus:
Install One (Use the 30 day trial below OR pick the brand you trust the most!!)
http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/ (Kaspersky Recommended, if you buy license, use newegg/amazon they have wicked deals)
If you already have one then do a FULL SCAN and makes sure you are clean.

  7. (Optional but RECOMMENDED!) Install anti-malewarebytes and run a full scan.
    https://www.malwarebytes.org/ (Official Website)

  8. Turn off all overclocking so the computer is working as its default setup.
Overclocking can use tricks that will screw with some apps and games.

  9. (Recommended) Check other drivers for updates, if you bought a laptop or desktop, HP, ASUS, SAMSUNG, MSI, etc.. will have an app or website to check for these! If you own a custom one, I think you might know how to do this already, if not let me know

Once you check all that (I might of missed something in which I'll update later) you'll know that your computer is in decent shape so it's most likely not the current BASE set-up (there are exceptions which you'll see later).

If you mean the tweak guide (which is awesome) it doesn't have a step by step guide for fixing anything, it's just a MASS of tweaks, and novice user can easily get lost and confused in it. I'm making this (still tons to do) where someone can go down the list and try the things when they are just trying to get the game to work or not crash.. I just had someone skype me today and said they looked at the tweak guide and got instantly lost and they just wanted to make the game work not make it look better. That's where I got the idea and I wanted to create something I can copy over to reddit, the other forum and my blog :) Maybe it will help someone while I build it!

P.S. I'm not a fan of linking guides away from the forums because it takes them away from the community!
