Which (English) Voice Actors Do You Like the Best?

Which (English) Voice Actors Do You Like the Best? Notice that this is not which CHARACTER you like best, but which VOICING. For example, I like Shani a lot, but I don't think she's voiced that well, whereas I'm not all that fond of Vaska, but I think she's voiced magnificently. I'm not including Geralt because he has an unfair advantage as the protagonist. You may vote for up to five.In order to refrain from making the poll ridiculously long, I've left out a lot of people. I tried to include people who had a lot of lines and leave out people who had few of them, though some people with few lines were included because their voicing was so memorable (e.g., The Resolute Girl). I didn't include any of the witchers, because most of them didn't have that many lines, something that I hope CDPR will correct in their next game. The listing isn't in alphabetical order but roughly in the order in which we meet the characters.Feel free to lobby for your favorites, to mention minor characters whose voices you loved, and to be generally vociferous.

Interesting. I've now heard that a lot of people love Geralt's Polish voice, a lot of people love his English voice, and people love his Italian voice. The people in charge of the localizations may have gotten some things wrong, but it sounds as if they got Geralt right.

Zoltan and Thaler are both extremely well voiced in the English version. I could listen to Zoltan talk all day, just for that throaty voice with the adorable accent, and Thaler is a breath of profane fresh air.

Yes. I was sad that they redid some of her lines in the EE that I thought were already perfect in the original version. I thought her original rendition of "There's nothing as pathetic as a sorceress in tears" was spot on, whereas they had her spitting that out in a fast, emotionless way in the EE. Oh, well, I guess each of us would have given the actors different direction, had we been in charge.

Azar Javed--his baritone fits the size of the character perfectly

I think Azar Javed is a bass, if anybody is. But yes, he certainly sounds as if he was born to be a villain.

Zoltan--burly Celt, yay!

I was never aware that there was voice acting when I was listening to Zoltan -- that voice just was Zoltan.

Ramsmeat--just because I never ever would have imagined his voice that way, and it works so well

I found his voice quite startling the first time I heard it -- it seemed so out of place, compared to the others, but I think you're right that it worked well. Certainly one would never mistake Ramsmeat for anyone else!

Lady of the Lake--wow, she's cool but intimidating

I wish the "making of" DVD had included some information about the voice acting, though I guess it would be hard to include stuff from all ten languages. But it would have been fun to hear the director's instructions to her. "Okay, you're a minor goddess, and you're fair, not the capricious type of god, but you are aware that you're a god, and you make sure other people are aware of that. But you're not unapproachable; you can be sexy." Video games must be an interesting stretch for some actors.

*nod* I thought the first attempt at Leo was just fine -- he sounded like an overeager young cub, which is just what he was. And Lambert was a sarcastic pain in the ass, which didn't make him loveable but did give him character. Vesemir and Eskel seem fairly close to their original versions to me; I don't know if it's the writer or the actor, but someone succeeded in making Vesemir seem loveable but worthy of great respect, all in a very few lines. I've seen several people clamor for more of the other witchers in any follow-up to the game, and I think that speaks well for both the writing and the voicing of the other witchers. I wish there were a few more of them, though -- having only three witchers besides Geralt seems so sad. I imagine that was part of the effect Sapkowski was trying to create, but he and/or CDPR made them real enough that now I want them to be happy, too.

I haven't figured out the quote function yet, and I know to keep it short, so bear with me on the following string of comments/answers.I have played at some length in German and French as well as English, and I have tried the Polish version with English subtitles. I fell in love with the first version I played, which was a friend's copy of the original release with English voicing (choppy editing and all), so I still play English EE the most--my default setting, as it were. Still, I love being able to hear how different languages (and, in a certain sense, cultures) deliver lines differently--where is the emphasis placed? how is the emotion expressed? etc. It also helps change the atmosphere a little, which is fun when I'm playing through different choices. My personal computer is down and out right now :-[ but I'll give the Italian version a try when it's back up, since it was mentioned here with enthusiasm. I agree completely that Triss (in the prologue, at least) is better in the original English release. Exactly--the actress gets the "sorceress in tears" line exactly right the first time. Still, I think she's great as the character in both versions.You're right--my bad. Azar is a bass, and I am a musical illiterate. Sorry about that. Anyway, his big voice fits his big physique. Like Ramsmeat's voice, it's idiosyncratic and really well done.Leo and Lambert were the two letdowns for me among the Witchers at the beginning--they're fine in the EE, but they were really spot-on in the original. Eskel and Vesemir are pretty consistent voices in both versions. The only thing I miss is a line from Vesemir in the first version that begins "Triss, babe, ..." It's out of character (and that was obvious even in the original game), and I would guess that it was a translation/abridgement issue or an ad-lib, but it was funny anyway.And oh yeah--Geralt is perfect across the board.

I love a strong, deep male voice, so of course the G-man is right up at the top of my list Zoltan is a favourite because the characterisation was just perfect - it's just as you said, Cory, it wasn't like listening to an actor reading lines, it was like listening to Zoltan I also quite liked the stylings of Thaler and Vincent Meis - both quirky in their own ways, very fitting, and Vincent just had that gruff, on-the-beat-too-long-but-still-cared-for-the-job burr But if I had a second heart to give, it would be to TWEE Dandelion - I know, I know, just like all the ladies but it's just his voice I want, I swear! The monologue he delivers at the end, wrapping up the game, literally had me speechless it was so damn fine to listen to. I did notice the shift between smooth Dandelion and exciteable Dandelion when the lines were re-recorded for TWEE, but I feel there's nothing to forgive in light of those closing minutes I also liked the voice of Vesemir, for all that we didn't hear much of it. He sounded wise but weary, gentle but firm; again, another perfect match, this time for the grim father figure of our favourite Witchers Dangerous topic, Mistress Cory, I could get carried away with my thoughts at this rate

Yes, I think they use the same tone-voiced actors for Geralt. And this is really well done!Here's my italian version classification (indeed it's really really long so I choose my best five) I excluded Geralt because i've told before i love his voice-Thaler-Zoltan-Raymond -Siegfried (too lovely )-Blue eyes girlCheers

Since I'm not a native English speaker, I'm playing with subtitles on, not to miss something from the story (which is absolutely great and immersive). As a result, I was not attentive to the NPC's voices so my answer is " I donno/Don't care". :

It's a tiny, tiny role, but I like the Fisher King's "Mhm" answers as well. I think he's very expressive, and at times hysterically funny, without ever saying a word.What does everyone think of Leuvaarden? I didn't vote for him because there were other choices that came higher on my list, but I think the actor plays him pretty well as an ambivalent sort of ally, though I would have directed some of his lines differently.

Another one I really like is the Druid voice. I like the way the Elder Druid says, "Wyverns, indeed!" and the way the Hierophant says, "My friend will come, too." They just SOUND like sweet, wise men, but not ones that are so removed from the world as to fail to understand what life is like. They're both quite small roles, but having them voiced so well makes the Druids feel right and makes them seem like a powerful force.And I love the joke about the fool who tried to brush a wyvern's teeth.

I agree about Leuvaarden. The curious thing is that in the Italian version he has quite the same tone voice.I agree with Game Widow too: I really dislike Toruviel and I was surprised when I listen to her in the english version. In the It version it's much better

ALL THE DWARVES ;D Definitely!!I did mention the one behind Shani's house, the tone is fantastic. These guys' guttural scottish speech is fabulous.Now I like the rest, and I do mean all of them, but the Dwarves were really outspoken. eace:

I adore the dwarves! Those rich, throaty voices are just so cool.I recently cancelled a trip to Scotland because feeling betrayed by a Scottish former friend made me not want to set foot in the place until the pain had worn off a little more, and I still love the dwarves!

Why would you say that? The Grand Master has the most normal voice in the game, in my opinion. What makes his voice acting so special? Or is it the dialog you refer to?I think the dialog of the old folk in the game is voiced rather well, but written poorly. "Oh my poor bones"... old folk don't think only of themselves and their fate... their emotions run high for the youth of a town or village, nothing is mentioned about that. I think that is just cruel, portraying old folk as mindless, selfish people. Only Vaska was in mention for some care, but it was religious, otherwise she is just the same. This really bugs me. :wall:
