"A portrait of the witcher as an old man" quest trigger

On my current playthrough, I don't see the painter who gives the quest "A portrait of the witcher as an old man".
As far as I could remember from my previous playthroughs, he appears near the market place next to a set of paintings during daytime.
Is there any quest that needs to be completed before he appears there?
I'm on GOG PC version 1.31 at the moment.

You need to complete the Warble of a Smitten Knight before this quest will trigger.

Thanks a lot, Dragonbird! It triggered right after I finished the Warble quest.
I hadn't done the Warble quest in this playthrough yet, and didn't guess it would be linked to the portrait quest.

I hit the same problem on my second playthrough. I must have been wandering around that square for three days

My understanding from the posts the last time someone asked (it happens a lot) was that it's probably because they share a location. I never noticed, but apparently the cave you go through in Warble is the same one as the nekkers are decorating in Portrait. I guess the blood spatter from your first visit gave them the idea.
