Game starting

I purchased the game on steam. I had previously had it installed but recently got a new computer built. I reinstalled the game from steam and when pressing play it starts to download and install the patches...then nothing. I press play a game and nothing happens.

What do I need to do...I am trying Steam tech support but havent heard from them yet.

I get this exact same problem, it was working fine on my pc before. I do the verify integrity thing and it always has files to install. I've uninstalled, reinstalled.. checked file integrity twice.. still.. i go to launch and then nothing happens. I hve also tried various things like running in admin mode. still with no joy

He said running steam and witcher 2 as admin worked for him... I have to reinstall the dam thing again so can't test it out right away

Although some people have reported that they did a clean install of the game, running both Steam and TW2 as Admin for the first time, and were able to run the game normally after that... You may still need to run Steam as Admin to get the game to launch properly, even with the registry fix from #19 in the FAQ.

If running steam and witcher.exe in admin mode does not fix, disabling UAC in Windows got the game running for me in the end.
