Gameplay Feedback Thread

+
Hi,

The way we have to chose your quest without knowing the stats of your character seems unfair for a new player. For my first game I took Triss and a quest were you need the red thing to complete without knowing it's the hardest to get for her.
I guess it's a problem specific to the digital version of the game and an other one is that you can't check your character/quest/cards during opponents turn.

Regardless I enjoyed playing this game so far :)

I hope this is the right thread for this:

The extra action good fortune card didn't work on two occasions in my first game with two different players.

Also, I don't really understand the mechanics yet. I choose one obstacle from all the obstacles at the end of the turn. So, the more obstacles there are, the better it is for me. And the foul cards aren't threatening. I was fast travelling all the time without ever being worried about them. And I feel based on the first playthrough that the game desperately needs more interaction between the players. Even if indirect ones by placing obstacles. In the whole game I could place one fould luck, that's all. After some time I wasn't even paying attention to the other players. We were playing parallel solo games.

And I wouldn't mind harder monsters. I was with Yarpen and I was eating gold monsters for breakfast. I think a gold monster should be a challenge even for Yarpen. There could be some cooperation between the players by putting roles on: For example Yarpen could kill the big monsters to payve the way for the others – if this wouldn't be a competitive game. (And I think it wouldn't need much tweaking to have a coop mode, too.)

After playing for an hour, I feel like I should provide some constructive or positive comments. As I was not able to determine how to play without some assistance from my opponents, I have little to offer. I am clearly not the type of person this game is marketed towards.

After my opponent exited the game, I played a bit solo. The game is way too easy. I gathered the 8 XP cards of Geralt very fast. After that developement has no value, I can put wounds and fouls on it. Geralt needs way more potions and effects. For example ones that reroll dice or something like that. With enough XP cards Geralt should be able to make complex, multiple exchanges of signs through cards. (For example one card would make an Axii from an Ard, another would make sword dice from Axii, a third would turn shields into Axii, etc.) So Geralt could chain the effects of his cards.

Geralt has way too many combat dice. I wasn't even looking at the numbers of the enemies, because I knew I would beat them all. There was one occasion when I was lacking a couple of swords, but I still got all the shields.

Foul cards aren't threatening at all, I only choose battle instead of foul cards, because it's more fun. I still think the effects of obstacles should add up, because choosing just turns them into opportunities, not obstacles. Make an AND instead of the OR.

The quests are too similar. All of them are only go to this place or pay an amount of clues. And maybe fight after that. I don't even have to beat the boss of the quest to beat the quest. I know, there are consequences of not beating them, but they're still ridiculously small.

And this game needs way more player interaction. For example players should decide where to place obstacles or there should be some kind of IF-THEN relation among obstacles. Like if I choose a quest where I have to kill a ghost, the board should be swarming with ghosts. Of course, I choose it, because I'm prepared for ghosts, but noone else is. Apropos, ghosts: There are no monster types. There should be monster types (for example Necfophages, Ornitosaurs, etc.) And they were immune to some effects and susceptible to others, etc.

Game needs more challenge and more interaction. If nothing else, then a coop mode would create some interaction among the players.

EDIT: I just played with Dandelion. Now, that's proper difficulty. But are these the only uses of money? Dandelions ability and traveling? That's not much, it should be generally useful. Like for buying XP cards or something.

It feels cheating that I can put foul tokens and wound tokens on the same action.

It would be nice to have abilities that aren't about giving dice in battle. Maybe an ability would make it free to travel on the seas. Or take off foul tokens or heal or flip monsters face up when choosing from them or exchanging monsters with each other or maybe there could be an ability that when activated, creates a battle for another player or an ability that steals money from another player or wounds or puts foul on another player. Stuff like that.

Ok guys here go.
Some few bugs I noticed from mechanics and visual FX.
Those that I have proven to happen more than 2 times at same circumstances I have commented in red below:

- First time you log and play your first game, During other players turns you are able to click and check other players cards, but you are not able to put the card back after it. The card will cover the map screen until his/her turn is over.
It seems to happen only at the very first game you play. I've checked with 3 others players at their first game.

-When clicking your fate, investigation, or developed cards slot too fast to pick the cards to use, one or more cards from its pool start to shine with a full cover golden glow until it is clicked again.
This seems to happen randomly, sometimes doesn't happen

- In public games or even Private ones, while waiting players to join your game, if you are ALT+TABED, the game will crash and ask you to report. As shown below:

View attachment 4786
This happens every time, no randomness about it. Checked with other 2 players, windows 8 users also.

- Sometimes while playing with Geralt when other players are taking their turns, seems that no matter where your character is on the map, he is shown to other players as being stucked at Oxenfurt.
Below is a ScrShot a player sent me to prove he was seeing me at Oxenfurt while actually I was on Ard Carraigh:

View attachment 4787
That seems to happen randomly, and more often when Geralt is around top right corner area on the map

- Dandelion Friend Cards Vicente Meis and Boussy La Valete do the same thing. Trade 1 Bribe for 1 Shield.
Based on the rest of Dandelion develop cards, it seems useless. One or another.

- Geralt's Quest Card "World's Colide" have a text error:
"...their loveortherwise..."
Two words are together.

- After you finish a Main Quest Card, if you click your Good Fortune Card received (or even already had) before the 2 new Quest Cards Options Show at the map area, the will game bug and there will be no more Quest cards to click or pick. You will must leave the game to fix.
That happened every time I was quick enough to click the Fate card slot before the 2 New Quests totally shows up.

- While playing at my desktop windows 8 pro, seems impossible to take print screens. The print shows the desktop screen only, not the game screen.
This wasn't fully tested yet. Maybe can be a bug from video card or the computer itself.

The game is great even on Beta.
I will keep posting some new bugs that appear.

The game is fun but...need more polish. First of all when you joining online game, there should be settings for looby what leight of game do you want to play. 1 or 3 or 5. Because if three people joins the lobby ant agreed to pick 3 and suddenly 4rth player joins from nowhere and choose 1.....and then those others players have to play with hes choise. Thats bad.
Music is to repetitive. They should add more soundtracks.
I thinx like others said that you shoul see what others are doing when they rolling dice on battle. Or maybe give them some interraction with other playrs while waiting. Last thing is about dice, developers should make rolling dice by your hand like in the witccher 2 mini game, not just push button ant thats all :) It would be much much better.

Now I was playing more with Triss and needed blue clues and proofs. So, it turns out that blue investigation cards are more dangerous than foul cards. That's counterintuitive. I thought investigation is there to give us clues and proofs faster in interesting ways. My blue card made me roll 3 times for success and activated a second blue card that made me roll 3 times for success that activated a 3rd blue card that made me roll 3 times for success. In the process I lost 1 blue clue.

It's not intersting when a blue card is calling another blue card. If any investigation card, then it should call a different colored card with some modification or conditions. For example a blue card could say that I have to fight for a blue proof or I can draw a red card.

And investigation cards shouldn't be hazardous. They should be a challenge, an opportunity. Instead investigation cards are dangerous, and obstacles give us opportunities.

My first play :

- Waiting until one player showed up. Didn't what is the choice about
- There should be full rules available somewhere in pdf
- after 5 min, and myself confessing it's my first play, the other left and i was happy to discover the game without constraints :
should be an option in main menu : play solo for testing / play solo waiting for player to begin new game
- some additional feedback on game :
-- rules/tutorial not accessible even in solo
-- it seems there is no interaction with other players
-- rule questions (not obvious in tutorial / during game) :
- where do i find other quest cards ?
- how does the skuklls are removed ?
- what is the impact of war wheel ?

It seems to me that Dandilion is the most powerful character in the game. His quests are pretty simple compared to the other characters at least from what I could tell. It might be wise to consider increasing the difficulty of his quests somewhat. I have noticed this both as a player and an opponent. This is just my view on the matter of course.

Dear All,
First what I consider well done:
1) Multiple heros with unique specialities
2) Quality of the soundtrack
3) It is nice to look at

Now what may be improved in my opinion
1) Interaction between players. I know that the key aspect of this game is competition between players and therefore no coop may likely take place. So let us extract some interaction from the competition. Introduce mutually excluding quests (I am the first who slays a golden beast, for both players), introduce options that damage the other player (if I resolve a quest, my opponent loses his special ability for five turns).
2) Quantity of the soundtrack. More music, please!! The quality is awesome, add more. Like, a battle music for battles or special Triss, Geralt, Yarpen, Dandy themes.
3) Give experienced players the possibility to participate in special matches (with other expy players). Like caps of 10 hours played, 20h, 50, 100... and when reached then you may play with others like you.
Thank you very much for the possibility to beta test.

So a couple of experiences for the first play:

Expected Behaviour: Idle time limit on non activity kicks the player and selects new or switches to ai
Actual: Player was Idle for 10 minutes, the game still remained on the idle user's turn.

Expected: A reasonable time limit on player decision making
Actual: No perceived time limit

Expected: While another players turn is active, I should be able to access my player sheet, including mission/activity cards.
Actual: Game is locked to current player activity.

Expected: Current player activity decisions to be shown to all players. E.g. mission selection of two cards to be visible to all players
Actual: A message is displayed to demonstrate a player is making a decision.

Playing Private LAN games between 2 medium spec Win7 PC's

1st thing to say is that my family really enjoy the game as it is and look forward to playing it further.
Whilst I can see that the game may lack player interaction between distant 3rd parties, it is a great experience with the player right next to you; I anticipate that the hotseat feature will be very popular. We have found the game to be a fun & relaxing change from some of the more intense experiences of computer gaming (roll on next February's release!).

We have encountered one bug so far, as below:
During turn 15, Player 2 (Dandelion) was removing a Bad Fortune marker from the travel ability, using a Good Fortune card. Upon clicking to choose the Travel ability, the game overlayed the travel options on top of the remove Bad Fortune options, thereby hanging the game. Player 2 could only select the menu & exit the game.
The game dealt with the above elegantly and allowed me [Player 1 (Triss)] to play out my game in single player mode (most enjoyable too).

On a different note, I support the lore friendly way in which our heroes do not come in to conflict with each other. It is easy to imagine our band of heroes having a friendly contest of who can finish a few quests first (naturally discussing their adventures at a Tavern afterwards). However it would be a great shame if this friendly rivalry was turned somewhat darker for the sake of spicing up the gameplay. IMHO that would not be a comfortable fit with the book / game lore.

Thanks CDProjekt Red for producing another interesting escapade into the world of The Witcher.

Is there a search bar to find other players and add them as friends going to be implemented? It would be really useful I think.
I agree with this. Or the option to send a request to a player after the game. Other than that more of the same, IE more to do or read during your turn and some minor spelling errors.

My impressions after a few games:

The game desperately needs more interaction between players. In a competive setting add cards, which allow you to mess with the other players, some interrupt possibilities to hinder them on their turn.
A cooperative setting would also be very welcome.
As it is now, you basically have no influence on the other players, apart from very few abilities and the game is essentially a single player race to who gets to the finish first with a lot of waiting time in between.

The Victory conditions aren't well chosen, since the game ends on the same turn where the first player finishes his last quest. This reduces the game mostly to just picking the easiest possible quest and finishing as quickly as possible. It is very rare for any player to get more VP with less quests done.
This is most extreme in the one quest limit, which in my opinion should be compeltely removed. One quest is just luck who gets the easiest, in one of those games I managed to finish my quest after turn 3.

I think a better approach is a turn limit, i.e. whoever earns most VP in x turns. Let players set this limit freely; so you can easily choose between a quick 10-15 turn game up to an epic 80+ turn game.

The war advancement and the other players are very obscure and you barely notice anything, except, when another player gets a wound.

It's good, that the game supports alt-tabbing, but it is too unstable. Usually it crashes after 5-10 alt-tabs. Considering it has frequent, long wait times, this feature needs to work perfectly.

Games should start by majority vote, I tried several times to play games with 4 players and never had success, because usually as soon as I get matched with one guy he immediately starts the game, because 1 out of 2 is enough (though granted, there really isn't much reason to play with more people at the moment)

Hi all !
First of all thank you for the beta test. We have played with my friend and we have tested the game for the first time today and we were very excited ! But we expected more...
I'm a big fan of the Witcher that is probably why i was not as disappointed than my friend who got bored very quickly.

Our positive feedbacks :
- Monsters, universe, characters that match perfectly with the Witcher universe
- Good graphics quality
- Sounds are perfect including music but too scarce

Our desappointments :
- First of all, why not a complete menu (settings -audio, graphics, room/lobby section-) ?
- It would be perfect if we could have acess to a digital manual in order to have game rules while playing (help button)

About gameplay :
- The fact that you can't see the other player.. play, makes the game quiet boring ! we have to wait too much our turn, especially if the other player takes his time playing (which is understandable). As a matter of fact it doesn't influence anything in the game to see the other player playing !
- No alliances ? no treasons with others players ? That's suprising because treasons and alliances are legions in The Witcher (games and books)..
- Total absence of interections between players
- No voice chat ?
- Rather useless tutorial because not reachable during gamplay. We were a bit lost to learn game mechanisms
- Being able to see your own game while the other is playing would be a good thing (preparing strategies)
- No possiblities to cancel your actions during the fight

Our stillborn wishes :
- Why not a main quest for all ? Another way to play the game with alliances and treasons : for instance the first player (choosen b the dice) has the opportunity to choose the quest for all the other players. For each character you have side quest(s) and the main quest that is common to all characters. You can eather use to reach the main goal on your own (solo) or with your partners as a coop.
- Voices over that read events cards
>> What we can say to conclude is that there's a lack of rythm. Why not seeing cutscenes while your character loose or win a battle against a monster or thieves, when a quest is done, etc. ?
>> Finally the game is a beautifull empty shell where competition is the master word. I would play the same game with the physical package.
>> My friend think is just a competition for yourself

Kind regards
Sladriyel and La_Charogne

In Wyzima got 5 bears in a row, in Ard Carraigh got 4 sirens in a row and in Shaerewood 4 Strigas. Is this as it should be or am i having a "bad luck streak" ? Is it just me or monsters are not as random as they should be?

Yes, monsters are random when you draw them but you need to kill them to make them go away.

Played with Triss because Geralt was taken by the first player and couldn't kill them. It is much easier to play as Geralt. I gave up after 4 tries and just ran away haha
