Please Please Please Please Please Please, do not make it first person or make third person a secondary consideration toggle.
I have never had hype die so quickly for a new game I thought I would love.
First person is not suited for RPGs, I never played any of TES games for that reason. RPGs are about your character in the world. First person removes all of that for the sake of so called immersion. Having a zoom in to FP mode is fine for when you want to look at a panoramic view but for the whole game it is decidedly not for me.
I am 100% sure this game will be a resounding success just like Skyrim, but unless FPV is a toggle for taking screenshots or reading screens/signs in game I will be unlikely to play the game.
I don't want to play as a floating camera in an RPG. I want to be able to pan and zoom around during combat, raise and lower the angle, not be fixed in to a 180 degree view I can only rotate and tilt up and down, if anything it reduces my immersion in the game being so limited. If your environment and story and characters and 'feel' of the world are top shelf, that is what provides the immersion, not playing in FPV. This is a bizarre decision.
I would go so far as to say that first person view is a relic of generations past that is being stubbornly held on to, 3rd person provides so much more.I think CDPR will alienate a decent portion of their players with a choice like this. but this is all just my opinion of course.
