The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - An Open Letter

I'm still concerned.
I mean, rushing it out the door certainly isn't a good thing, but the fact that we're seeing multiple delays certainly isn't a good sign either as it suggests shoddy organization.
If it was a good thing, Duke Nukem Forever would've been the best game in existence.

Anyone actually think this won't get delayed into the Fall/Holiday? No chance this launches in May.

It would surely be embarrassing if they move the release again. If they just said TBA 2015 this time then they would have more leeway. To say May 2015 and then move it again would be terrible. Of course a great release/game would undo the damage fairly quickly, but any faults in the game will be blasted on.

Well, this is from late November, a few weeks ago:

http://forums.cdprojektred.com/thre...icles-Part-2?p=1472207&viewfull=1#post1472207

"In any case, we had different ideas on how to implement threads of Geralt's relationships with the girls. Each of them had its advantages and disadvantages. As a result, we decided to do it according to three principles:

- So that the player was able choose his own way.
- So we can reproduce the situation from the books as well as possible and to create NPC of flesh and blood.
- So that we liked it. (Contrary to what people think, we often do things, that we do not like, but we know that will appeal to players)."

Pretty specific.

Remember, they cant talk too much about stuff that's being changed or created, but communication from CDPR seems steady. Hey, wasn't there a Q/A around here from recently?

I remember that, it is a good example and I liked it.

But I want something more open, and more official, although something like that would still be ok with me actually, I think they are still talking too little, and while I understand they cant talk too much about the things that are changing, the percentage of what that stuff is should've been dramatically reduced now that we got so close to the end of development and they say many times the game is feature complete.

I never complained before that they didnt give us answers or described the game in more detail or whatever, I was always the guy saying "bros calm down its hard to talk about the game and make sure its there by release and so on", but now we are just too close to what was supposed to be the release

Well, I can't think of ANY statement that worries me more than that one. I wanted to thank you first for this quote but now I kind of hate you for it, sorry.

That's the way to make mediocre mainstream games. That's the way how you fuck up games easily. That's the way almost any US AAA game is developed and it's also the reason why they all feel more or less the same.

Please, for the love of God, Reds: don't do or implement anything you personally don't like to have in your game. Just don't. Never.

Make a game and let it be YOUR game. Put your heart and passion into it and create the game you want to play. Trust your opinion. Trust your taste. You are gamers yourself and you can be damn sure that a lot of other gamers out there enjoy the games you personally enjoy. Don't listen to stupid stuff like target group or market requirements or even forum feedback if you're personally not happy with it. There is really no easier way to hell than following that route. Making games that the devs love and want to play themselves is what made games so great a decade ago and before and it's the main principle many European and indie devs still follow while creating games. Don't sacrifice that. I beg you...

NOW I'm really, really scared about Witcher 3. :(

I can't seem to remember, what were the "shitty" months (in NA at least) to release a game? January? the summer months? You know, the months when games are released just to die?

keep in mind because bioware didnt do this, they ruined the mass effect 3 ending.

There is a sensible balance to be made, when you, the artist, want to do something that goes against what you think players will want.

Im personally very happy to hear Blacha has this understood, he's probably not specifically talking about the mainstream gamers, you're looking too much into it to make it sound bad imo.

IMHO, much better to delay than to release a game that many of your fans will be disappointed with or maybe not even be able to play (Bioware please take note). As long as the wait is worth it, I'm sure we'll all be very happy come May 19th.

As a PC only gamer, I really don't mind waiting; even if, as some have suggested, the delay is purely to sort out console issues. I've thoroughly enjoyed Witcher I & II, loved reading all the books and have the adventure game to enjoy over Christmas. What's important is that we all get a great experience in the end and a satisfying conclusion to the storyline.

Good Luck and Merry Witchamas to CDPR & all your fans.

Yeaah..that would be worrying, but this is the SAME company that did sex cards, nearly porn sex scenes, racism, drinking plus tattoos, torture...really not too likely they are aiming at mainstream audience.

And, although it could be seen as worrying, it's also a relief - how do they know what the players want? How?

From us.

From these forums.

He didn't say, "what will appeal to new players" or "what will appeal to most players" he said, " we know that will appeal to players."

Well, the only players of Witcher 1 and 2 they gots is us! We're it, baby. We're the test bed. For good or bad, these forums are the primary player-response base for CDPR. Followed by Steam and GoG of course.

So when I have to play as Ciri, I blame you fuckers. Ooooh. Just.. Oohhhh. I'll have you for that, sir! I'll have you! Sard does NOT play girls!

I don't think the ending was "ruined". It certainly wasn't what many people expected it to be. But I rather take a controversial but original idea than a brainwashed one, doing "what people expect you to do". (And althoug that's off-topic: the original ME ending suffered a lot from its lacking execution and lazy staging and not so much of its original idea imo. The "changes" ending followed the same main principle but it was quite a lot more enjoyable due to more care to the details...)

That doesn't mean you should act against your consumers on purpose. You shouldn't just do anything that you personally don't support.

Real shame about this. My itch to play the game is too much already.
But I guess there's one good thing about it.
I'll be able to make my decision on whether to get an AMD or Nvidia card easier since AMD's new cards aren't being released until sometime late Feb/ Early March, and I would of probably had to wait to see benchmarks of the new cards to make my purchase decision and possibly not play the game on release.
So it's a relief in that sense :p
