Judy ... ugh ! [Spoilers]

+
OK so I realise this is probably going to be a fairly unpopular thread ... but I've racked up almost 1000 hours gameplay now (even if a bunch of that is probably putting my machine into 'sleep' mode or having the game on pause without ACTUALLY playing ... I'm pretty sure I can't LITERALLY have clocked up that much actual gameplay) with playthrough number 3 about 70% through/

The thing I've come to realise is I REALLY can't stand the Judy character, and I don't understand the level of 'fanboy / fangirl luuuurve' she gets (n)

Yes, I romanced her during my female V playthrough, because of course I'm going to play that thread out. She's over-rated though. She whines constantly. She's 'needy' as all heck, in a way that Panam isn't. Her attitude sucks BIG time.

She's not even particularly cute ... having dated real-life 'Judy's' before - been there, done that. Panam is far cuter in every way. Heck, River's cuter than Judy and I enjoyed 'romancing' him more than her.

So yeah ... I say again ... Judy ... ugh ! :p

I'm not bothering with any of her sidequests this playthrough ... really don't wanna put myself through dealing with her again !

You are right about that she is definitely need and whines more than other. I think its good that you have various different characters in game which arent super heroes and you can pick the ones you like and fit you. Ive always felt that Judy is that kind of fragile person which went through a lot in a past, recently lost a lover or very close friend, is a bit naive and lost for most of its storyline - thats also why she makes decision to leave Night City for example in one of an endings. I understand that some people prefer strong and straight to a point Panam, although personally I enjoyed Judy more as content was more emotional.

Easy answer > matter of tastes/opinion.
And Judy had a rather sad life.
  • She lost her parents very soon.
  • Alone with her grandparents.
  • Mocked and missunderstood during her childhood
  • Her hometown was submerged under waters.
  • Living since alone in the middle of Night City working on porn BD in an insanitary basement (all day long).
  • In love with Maiko, a heartless manipulator...
  • She lost her best friend sadly (Evy).
  • The Clouds still what it was, whatever you can do/choose.
The opposite of Panam where except with Saul, has always had a good relationship with his "family" and unfailing support by them. Two different life, two different character indeed :)

Like almost all fictional love interests in games, you wouldn't want to be with them in real life. I mean, do I think Yennefer or Triss are cool characters in Witcher 3? Yes. But would I date them in real life? No. (Even if they look like Victoria's Secret models.)

Have to say, do not disagree with you. She seems to be into women, but doesn't seem to very good with them. She also doesn't seem to know what she actually wants. Looks to be going through life unsure, insecure and unfocussed. And that with an attitude. Also don't quite see where all of a sudden her crush for my V came from. If it is because V eliminated a couple a crooks, then one can start to wonder what exactly would turn her on.

Her personality doesn't suit mine, and to be frank, not even V's. My V knows exactly what she wants, is highly dedicated and determined. Panam is just as thorough as V, as why they're the best of partners and friends.

The only way Judy could fit in V's life is being obedient. And she's everything but that.

In fact, Judy's life in Night City is look like the Badlands, sad and a vast "almost" desert.
So for that reason she the only one who leave Night City (with V or alone) without any regrets... She left nothing behind her. Panam and River have their families, Kerry have his passion/carrier, Judy... really nothing. But with V, everything could change.
Judy : "Every time, I thought I found a home. And every damn time, I came away desappointed"
V : "Things'll be different now. You'll see."
And during the credits :
"V, I just want you to know that... I'm happy. For the first time in my life"

The absolute best thing about the Judy quest is the underwater sequence. That's genuinely original, spectacular and moving (when you get to hear some of her life backstory - it kind of makes her whiny brattishness somewhat forgiveable :) ) and an example of CDPR at their best (one of several notable examples in the game, e.g. the graveyard sequence, several other great sequences).

I DID forget the underwater sequence ('played out' Judy options fully in the FIRST playthrough, which was at the start of this year). You're right THAT part I liked (y)

Oh I'd date Panam in a heartbeat (explored in another recent post) ! Although I DO have a bit of a 'white knight' tendency in my IRL dating (which I have to watch) so that's probably part of it.

She's HELLA cute too. I mean my first playthrough (female Nomad V) I basically modelled looks-wise after my second wife (got really damned close) and looks nothing like Panam. But Panam is VERY pretty for a 3D-modelled persona driven by some C++ behaviour code and buncha prewritten cinematic scripts :ROFLMAO:

You mean, in a relationship ?
No, I don't think so. According to the messages, Judy and Evy were very close friends for sure, but not together. Unlike Maiko :)
I've been reading it as Judy & Evy having sumthin sumthin going on as well. Maiko was Judy's prior ex, Evy is her current squeeze / sometime FWB. No ?

[Spoilers below]

What I deduced is that Judy had feelings for Eve but were corresponded as an awsome friendship. I think that was blocking Judy also to some extent (I haven't done Judy's romance but definitely will but am talking about the comment that her passion comes very suddenly).

I like Judy. She has a good heart, tried to make Night City a little bit better for the people who often get overlooked by most because she didn't want anyone else to suffer like Evelyn did. She's naive, doesn't really think things through, and her flaws might be the kind that are difficult to look past for some, but none of Judy's bothered me personally.

my first playthrough was female V and i adored Judy and her story.
my second playthrough was male V and after the credits rolled and i got the Star ending, i deleted my female V

I cannot imagine doing a playthrough where i am not a male V, the story and ending is amazing. Judy leaves and begins her journey to find herself and happiness, and you ride off with Panam

No I don't think so (there is no infos/messages/dialogues who can lead in this sense anywhere. Nor any particular gestures of Eve towards Judy, nor anything in fact). It's like with male V at the end, good friendship but that's all (Like Jackie/Female V, Panam/Scorpion/Mitch,...)
her passion comes very suddenly
Not as quick for me. That come "slowly" with messages just before you find VDBs ("I don't want you end like Evy") and by little steps until "Pyramid Song" where it clearly seem to be a date (even if Judy said "we'll see" :)

And even at the very beginning, when V (Female) can said in the Lizzie during "The Information" (and it seem that something is possible...)
V : "I hope we will see each other"
Judy : "Ok, but if there isn't a netrunner around..."
V : "Don't worry, there won't be a netrunner."

I wish Judy would leave the city with us, Panam and the Alcaledos, even though we are a male V. So almost to help her because they are still best friends. I mean Panam and Judy want to leave, cool. But why do you have to be female to be able to run away with both......

If you are male V, you will probably spend your time with Panam. So why would Judy want to end in a Nomad camp where she know no one in middle of nowhere ? to be "alone", again ?
I don't know if in english it mak sense, but in french : not terrible to hold the candle
"to hold the candle means to be the third wheel, to go out alone with a couple or to feel excluded"
tenirlachandelle.jpg

There are certain phrases that are just better in a foreign language. Tenir la chandelle is one of them. Think about it, what does “being the third wheel” actually mean? Tricycles exist. But the French version of the same phrase – tenir la chandelle – makes me chuckle because if you’re the odd wo/man out when hanging out with a couple, then you are “the one who holds the candle.” How romantic!

The "only" reason that she leave Night City with the Aldecaldos is "love". Otherwise she by joining her grandparents, which seems much more judicious if she does not have a relationship with V.

I just find it creepy that even after she leaves NC, and even texts you along her way north, you can still find her in her apartment...
CDPR really should tidy that up...

Not personally tested, but in 1.3 patch note :

Pyramid Song
  • Judy will no longer be present in her apartment if she left Night City after the quest.
