[MOD REQUEST] E3 Drowners

[The hidden peak of dreams of all E3 fans ;)] In times when most players use some kind of "E3 lighting mod", their(drowners) current blue colour completely doesn't fit to enviroment. So in demo we could see 2 colour variants of drowners - red(+suptle blue) and mix of green and grey.

I know that their look mostly depends on the lighting but even lighting mods don't change it much. So I think it is a good idea to change the textures of these most common monsters in W3.
 
Looks nice, but I am guessing this is scrsh of wiedzmin 2.1 at very specific time(I never saw drowner in that coloring).

If we are talking about your example I think drowners should look like in scrsh(maybe the green should be darker, more intense) BUT 1)all the time (more or less because of lighting) and also 2)in all regions - abstractly blue drowners don't fit anywhere. + Skellige drowners(these dark blue) can be red as I mentioned.
 
I am indeed using Wiedzmin Lighting mod but I also changed the drowner texture file to use more of the colors your mentioned. It was a quick edit, nothing more just to see if I got what you meant with your first post. :)

Also there are 3 drowners textures: 2 i think are for common drowners (they look similar) and one for the high leveled one (drowned_dead). I guess skellige is using the high leveled one because it's an area you're supposed to visit later in the game. Maybe I'll try again later to mess with the colors.
 
I did some testing and it seems to be like this:
t_01__drowner_d01.xbm is for the common drowner in velen/white orchard
t_01__drowner_d02.xbm is for the drowner in Skellige (called Mucknixer)
t_01__drowner_lvl4_d01.xbm is for the high leveled drowner (drowner_dead)

Had to make the first one bright yellow and the other one bright red just to see which texture was which. Also little something I noticed: dismembered drowners seems to use t_01__drowner_d01 texture, even if it was the Skellige drowner or the high leveled one that got dismembered. So, if using my testing colors, you would end up with a right colored (main part) corpse and a yellow severed limb (part that got dismembered).

Unless there's a way to make each drowner use his own texture when dismembered, all of them must be made similar in color otherwise it looks pretty ugly.

Disappointing a bit... :/ I thought it will be easier to do. Thanks for testing it!

*Getting back to your first scrsh, again - your first try looks quite good I am interested how does it look in contrast to dismembered body - is it really bad or maybe the change is so suptle that the difference isn't disgusting?
 
I didn't test that because it was just a quick check in game to see how it looked. I think I even lost the modded file XD.

About the dismembering it all depends on the colors the drowners use... that greenish-grey will show up quite a bit I think if the drowner killed is purple-red (like the high leveled one) and maybe even on the Mucknixer... I'll have to test it all when I have some time.

I'll try to remake that color in the texture and check the combination when I have some time... maybe I'll find some balancing. What are the colors each drowner should be (at least trying to be XD)?

Common drowner = that grey-green
Mucknixer = ?
High leveled drowner = ?

Mucknixer = red
High leveled drowner = well can't decide for now, maybe green-grey with red elements or maybe wight-colour like?

Only red would be nice for high level monster but I watched bestiary from W1 and saw that drowners were green-grey, and mucknixers red - comparing to E3 I suppose that was REDs idea: to make d. and m. colour close to W1 version.

Drowner and drowned_dead have now pretty similar body colors so when dismembered they look pretty alike. The only difference is with Mucknixer... but seeing how it is in vanilla I personally prefer it like this, at least it is reddish now. :)

Wow :eek: drowners(perfection) and dismembered parts are really good!

Mucknixer - even bigger change, I am ready to accept it however maybe could you make red parts, more red - dark elements, like eyes, seem to fuse with skin, at least I have this feeling. Here is what I am thinking about(I remember you can't make it such red as on photo)

Drowned dead - nice idea to make it similar to drowners I am only interested how they look if you swap white colour on red from Mucknixer

I CAN make the mucknixer red but then the dismembering will be ugly as hell just like in the testing screenshots. I personally feel it's better to go dark dark red then normal red. Also when I change colors all kind of random bright purple spots start to appear lol. Have to fix them manually >.<'''

I can't see it well but the eyes in that pic are greyish? In W3 Mucknixer eyes are blackish as you can see. Also around the eyes there is a pattern that gets changed along the body color. Unless I manage to make it lighter while the body gets slighty more red... don't know I'll see what I can do.

Also I just saw that there's another texture ( >_<') which I guess is used for underwater drowners. It is bluish-teal like... should I try to make it similar to normal drowners?
 
Tried to change the white from drowned_dead to red but it looks weird and ugly, better leave it like that imo.

Also changed slightly Mucknixer, I tried to make it more pale reddish rather than brown... if it gets any redder then dismembering will be an eye-sore. It's already kinda obvious. I also tried to polish and clean a weird pixelation that appearead when I had changed the colors on the first try. It was pretty evident around chest area. Hopefully now it looks cleaner.

Regarding the underwater drowner I suggest we leave it like it is, since it's underwater and it's dark you rarely see it clearly.

Alright, it wasn't looking so bad, was interested if there is way to make it better.

Looks much better; I suggest only to change one detail - colour of its hair - on black.

Don't forget that if you kill underwater drowner its body will surface and then you will see this ugly blue. And I find it as the advantage that drowner is harder to see underwater, its skin should be an element of the camouflage.

Alternatively you can make them look like drowned_dead with white elements - it will make them more visible

I tried to attach the file here but it exceeds the size so I'll probably upload it to Nexus later with some comparison shots between vanilla and modded.
