  • Any news about singleplayer campaign?

After 2 months in the beta I've lost intrest in MP. I gave it a try over a weekend after a long time and now I can say I'm done with it. But singleplayer campaign -that's a different story. If it will be anything like Witcher games story wise than I will be all over it. Some info CD,please.

A singleplayer campaign wont be like WItcher games, how would it be like that? Its mainly a multiplayer game anyways. Multiplayer is the focus, not singleplayer.

I wouldn't underestimate the singleplayer campaigns - those will come with 8 to 10 hours of story content (only the first one will be a lot shorter as it seems). And what I've seen from the storytelling last gamescom was pretty promising! So it's definitely something to look forward to.

Basically what devivre said. It's true, a big part of the game is the multiplayer aspect but they already said they want to implement a huge singleplayer campaign that isnt just a small thing you do and the forget about it.

Here are some quotes I found devs and articles have posted so far regarding SP:

"Gwent, which is free-to-play and will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, is more than just a competitive card game. It’s going to have a full-fledged single-player mode. There will be several campaigns—each 10+ hours, the developers say—with top-down maps and even optional areas to explore. Your main character, who will vary depending on the story, will make decisions ranging from menial to significant, in true Witcher style."

"During a short demo of Gwent at an E3 presentation this afternoon, CD Projekt Red showed off an early section of this new campaign. The premise: Geralt is working as an escort for a group of mercenaries, and they find that one of their men has been slaughtered, apparently by a demon. After some dialogue, they go off into the world, which is a simple cel-shaded map with a top-down 2D perspective. In the demo, Geralt and crew decided to ignore the main path and instead explore a nearby ruin, where they’re rewarded with a card that they can use in future battles."

"You will be able to buy the single player campaign that will be self contained and with a great story - you get cards in the campaign and unlock new ones when you progress in the game - you don't have to do PVP at all to be able to enjoy Gwent. You pay once for the single player and enjoy a great story done by writers and quest designers from W3."

I don't know what you mean. Why wouldn't it be? I was talking "story wise". I'm not expecting 150 square kilometers 3rd person SP RPG da Vinci style masterpice. But some of that epic story telling that witcher games have, with well developed characters and quality dialog with strong decisions and consequences. And instead of fighting (combat and all that) you play gwent.

Well, since, last we heard, the same writers who brought us Wild Hunt and its expansions are creating the stories for the single-player, the campaigns should be quite entertaining.

Thanks for that info Strollin. First time I heard about that Geralt and mercenaries thing (I did hear that Geralt will be the protagonist in the first one and that it will be free). I heard somewhere that you play as leaders.Like Radovid for instance. I hope that Dandelion narrates everything and that comic-style cutscenes return.

That's good to hear. And speaking about expansions. Was it just me or was Hearts of Stone epic.Like really f.... epic. I mean Wild Hunt was really good but HoS was on a whole new level if you ask me.I hope that gwent singleplayer will go that way. That's where Witcher is at it's best-short stories that are surprising and unique and unrelated to the main thing.

I prefered Blood and Wine by far, though HoS was really good too.

We could go on and on discussing about what needs to get nerf or buff, whos OP or not, but iam deeply curious to what the campaign will be like, whats your thoughts it'll be like? since the patch, they remove the campaign option (hopefully thell slap it back there soon). As most of us who played the Witcher series, the reason why we fell in love with it so much is because of the story and i believe campaign mode should follow the same flow. I dont got the time to be reading books but id hope there are still more Geralt related source materials that they can squeeze out off. and while there at it, maybe they can slide in them *wink* *wink* situations, lol

Personally I think the campaign mode will be more or less like the gwent tournament quest in the witcher 3
where your set to play a bunch of top players

                      Which would be awesome

as much as CDPR puts into their products
I'm sure we will all be pleased at the end result

Interesting, i just hope it'll at least be fully voice, imagine playing Gwent with Lambert and he continuously speaks sarcastically during the match XD

I really enjoyed the campaign in ES:L, too small though. I liked it because i get immersed in any fantasy world and also because it gives free cards. Free cards are actually very important for any F2P player.

What i hope here: That the campaign will be on the same standards of the Witcher franchise. Meaning, it is long, with depth and it explores the games lore. Just PvE or Co-Op i do not mind, i only hope they do include free rewards (just cards, kegs or scraps) as they are needed for the F2P player to catch up as fast as possible and with less frustration the paying players.

We discussed this a bit in a previous thread, where we received a wee teaser from REDDorigen , one of the lead writers:

As for me I would enjoy a campaign with some RPG element in it, with a branched story path and different possible outcomes. Not just a sequence of opponent to defeat, but a CCG-RPG hybrid. That would be great!

Let's hope you'll be able to catch up with those nasty, nasty paying players!
