Property Ownership

Either have Business Sense or an agent you trust.

Heh. Yeah, I typed that while laughing.

Or, get ripped off a lot until you are feared enough that only equally potent people will try it. You know, the high paying ones. With lots of bodyguards and firepower.

Yeah, get Business Sense.

That said, my favouritest Solo never had it and the scenario I describe above was pretty much his career.

Business Sense is a skill, anyone can obtain it. It isn't exclusive to Fixers or Corps, and in fact pretty much every character should have it, if only so they can know how much they can get away with charging for their own services. Hell, a role with a hich material upkeep, like a techie, medtech, or netrunner, would be kind of foolish not to have business sense.

And since most independent techies run a side job as a garage mechanic or other repairman type vocation, it's not unheard of for them to run their own business either.

Corporates and fixerswould have an early leg up, but just about the about the only real advantage they have is their contact lists...

You're missing the point. We aren't saying it should be exclusive to anyone and I wasn't refering to business sense as a skill, I was refering to the fact that Corporates and Fixers are expert businessmen. They should have bonuses to running buisnesses over other role types, even if that advantage is an early leg up, as you said. I've run my own business before, both in security and catering, but that doesn't mean I would be any good as a landlord.

I somehow doubt the traditional special abilities will carry over well from 2020 to 2077. This seems a perfectly good way of representing this sort of role. Better negotiating/haggling skills and better business accumen. Corporates could specialise in dealing with other corps and legit businesses while Fixers handle gangs and illicit trade.

OK, i usually play as a rogue cop, (A good guy who kills and steals from bad guys.. Hey, there is plenty of bad guys out there..) And i want my safehouse to look like this:

(ChrisWebb, thanks for the image by the way..)

The way your safehouses look should depend on your profession. (Plus the personal preferences.)

I mean, as a rouge cop, in my safehouse, i would want:

A police scanner,
Access to the police database,
City activity monitor,
A weapons locker fit for a cop,
Spare uniforms,
And files on some of the major criminals on the city. (So i can hunt them down for reward and glory.)

It would be great if the safehouses were customizable.

I suppose that customisation slots could be used in properties for tools of our respective trades. I always play a Techie so I want lathes and parts bins as well as the obligatory weapons locker/gun wall. Fixers would probably have all sorts of cases and boxes everywhere full of merchandise. Not to mention files and data for sale.

So many options... So little space!

I hope CDPR are reading and taking notes on these ideas. It is a shame if they don't.

The game can have options for property ownership, but it shouldn't be forced on the player, i.e. the player shouldn't be forced into taking care of a hideout/safehouse/whatever, assuming that such places would require upkeep...which it should.

Amen...

Although the options for doing so should be plentiful.

You could easily lose a word there, without losing clarity...

As far as I know, the difference between a cop and a rogue cop is whether they get caught.

Or, to paraphrase an old saying (The form I heard it in was in reference to politicians): Cops are like bananas. They start out green and straight, but the longer they're there, the more yellow and bent they get.

If you're going to earn properties, there should be a different mechanic for every class, something different that might benefit their class or just something specific to the class

I wouldn't mind the player owning a flat, but I wouldn't want it to be just a glorified storagebox/wardrobe (or to turn the feature into player being a real estate collerctor) like in Bethesda games and GTA's. It should serve the gameplay through other functions as well, something that is actually required to visit every now and then.

Exactly this.
I think Alpha Protocol's use of safehouses was great with e-mails, video calls, buying gear and interacting with few people. Unfortunately in CP77 most of that can be done remotely so that removes the need for that.
Perhaps they just need to tie it to the story.

In the PnP game, business was a big part of just about everything. There was even a specific subclass of Fixer who specialised in renting out properties.

I also stated previously that I want several safehouses and boltholes. Mainly for storage and being able to hide relatively safely, (and I use that term very lightly.)

I think Fable 3 did the whole owning a house thing right.. You could have bought a house, decorate it, than sell it or rent it.. (You were able to raise or lower the rent as well) If i remember correctly you could buy almost every single house there is.. (Provided that you had the money) You could also buy shops and such. I'm thinking a system similar to that would work perfect for CP77.

Also, State of Decay safehouse system would work great for the wastelands.
