Character Appearances

Ciri looks 'too pretty' and pointy, and I agree with Dona's assessment that it's almost like a re-skinned Triss face. I also just now noticed that her eyes don't look very green, but it might be a bad angle.

Yennefer looks very young and not at all as mature and regal as she's described in the books. Her hair is also too short and brown instead of black. Why do they do this?

Okay, this is the last time I'm going to be autistic about Geralt's looks today, I promise. But I think I've narrowed down exactly which things I have a problem with that I think they might've overlooked or something.

-Geralt's beard is now almost black and has become a half stubble. What happened to the nice full white beard that matches his hair color and doesn't create this weird contrast?
-His iris color seems a tad too dark. I mean just look at the official promotional stuff for TW3, even for the event itself, where he has his classic golden eyes, whereas in the trailer it was brownish-orange, which I think creates an overall weaker effect and doesn't match up with the art work.
-His cheek structure. The best way I can describe is it that he kinda looks like someone who has that "puffy" look after plastic surgery, but I doubt they'll change this so whatever.

Essentially, I just hope they make him look the way he does on the actual cover of the game and not like some weird alternate character.

I'm fine with Ciri so far, won't really judge her design when I've only seen half of her face.
Remember, she has quite a scar on the other side~

A lot of these things are a matter of taste, but Yennefer really needs a proper redesign.
Her age can be explained with the magic sorceresses use to remain young and attractive,
but I don't know how they came up with the rest.

It's especially strange because the books have described Yennefer so well and detailed~

Ok, i've taken a nap so i've basically slept off most of my hype. time to be an insufferable nit picky bastard.

Geralt: He was pretty good. atleast to me he didn't seem to have a corset. The other witchers were also great. we had a short appearance by letho so hopefully he will appear.

Emperor Emreis: the best protrayal by far. He was just so spot on. He seems to care about her and all, but the way he said his last words really brought a shiver to me.

Ciri: OMG, SHE FINALLY APPEARED!!!!!!11111ELEVENELEVENONEONEONE *cough cough* ahem, right where was i,? Biggest issue i have is that Ciri looks like Triss with Geralt's hair. One could say that yes, she looks too old, but we cant forget that she can manipulate time, what might have been 5 years for geralt could have been 10- 15 years for Ciri. We dont know exactly what cdpr has in store for us.

Other issue is her hair. it was short and almost seemed like it was just geralts hair. but again we don know what CDPR plan is, it could be she is more confident and would have her hair short so she could fight better. But then again, its so different that when she was shown on the first artwork, with her long hair and her slightly yellower tint. Also her eyes, there where people that noticed that she had brown-yellowish eyes when Ciri's biggest feature were her green eyes.

Anyway this is a silly nitpick but the overall problem i have with her is that her body language didn't match up with her appearance. If she is an older, more confident woman she shouldn't have moved like she ran is the video. "I hope they didnt get a super model to have her run :p" she seemed like a scared princess in distress not like the confident, older bad-ass that she should be. But again, video was too short cant say for sure what CDPR has in store for us.

Dandelion: Really liked him. favorite portrayal of him by CDPR by far,. What i liked is that he looks older now. which is exactly what he should look considering he should be like 50 years old.

Yenefer: She was ok. clothes made it clear it was her, issue is that her face was not hard enough for someone like yennefer and her hair are not dark enough.
Again dont know what CDPR has in store. maybe yennefer still doesnt have her memory.

- I truly think Ciri looks exactly like I imagined her. Don't change her, give her a slightly more yellowish hair colour and it's perfect.

- Triss is perfect as always.

- I dig dandelion's pornstache

- Yennefer was a bit underwhelming. She is supposed to have black hair, not brown. Also I did not see her eyes being violet. She looked a bit dull, emotionless maybe and that gave her an underwhelming look. For a sorceress who is VERY well known by many throughout the kingdoms and even empire, that's not the look you want to give her. I'm not sure how I would change her, but Yennefer is much older than triss and has seen a lot more. Sure she can hide all the wounds, scars and things like that through magic, but what a person has experienced through life, you can't change that. So I imagined a slighly more matured, experienced view. She's supposed to be a very intruiging individual.

- I always imagined Emhyr to be a lot older, but I guess this is okay. I dig the voice.

- Rest of the witchers: Pure awesomeness.

I too like Ciri how she is in that trailer.
I'd really like to see more than half of her face, but I'm truly grateful we were shown Ciri at all.

And I agree about the other characters too.
Who'd have thought that Dandelion gets one of the best overhauls ?

She only needs to get her hair slightly more yellowish and her eyebrows might be a little too dark? I noticed Ciri wearing the same eyeliner as Triss though. At least worn the same. Perhaps Triss taught Ciri to be a bit more feminine? I mean Triss did try to show more of the feminine side to Ciri if I remember correctly back at Kaer Morhen.

In total I think a very tiny adjustment to Ciri is needed, other than that she looks fine. Her eyes look green, though I could not tell that easily.

Oh and I don't agree that Ciri looks too pretty. She's a grown woman and Elven blood runs through her which gives her a bonus to looks. You can see the scars she has. Why can't ciri look pretty? Besides... you haven't seen her other side. :p

Triss and Yennefer both did.
I don't remember who showed her how to wear make up, I think it was Yennefer.

Uh.. damn you, CDPR ! I should have been sleeping long ago.
But... but.... Ciri.... and....

I know right. I love ciri as well. As much as I like Geralt. I thought ciri looked badass in a way. Carrying her Witcher sword and those scars on her face show she's been through some tough stuff like Geralt.

This new trailer is simply amazing!

I totally agree! :)

- We finally get to see Ciri and Imo she looks gorgeous! *o* (However, I also think that a slightly more yellowish hair colour would be better, as you mentioned.)
- Triss looks great, though it suprised me that she looks the same as she did in TW2 (I mean hairstyle and clothes.)
- Yeah... Yennefer doesn't exactly look like how I imagined her, but I guess CDPR will change the characters' appearance a bit, so their final appearance will be even better.

Well, thank you for this thread. It's just for me because in previous one people got bored with discussing looks.
How a hero looks means basically everything. Looks can sell, there is no denying this simple fact of life.
First of all, all characters are fully described in books. The devs must not change that - it is a canon. We already had in game our main hero, Geralt, his friends, Dandellion and Zoltan, one of his women, Triss and other characters from books. And now what I have to say about everyone.

Geralt.
I love Geralt's look in W1.
In W2 we had different engine, but still the devs changed Geralt. he became more handsome - and I didn't like it. He is not a prince charming or playboy, he is not ugly, that is aalso true. His looks in W2 were almost good for me, I got used to new Geralt in the end. Now with this new trailer.. I cannot say I'm dissapointed but I don't understand - why they always have this pressing need to change how our main hero looks? Why we get new Geralt again? He doesn't look bad but different. I cannot pinpoint what exactly bugs me, let's see in-game footage and look closer, but still...
About his hair. Is it really that much of a challenge to give a hero white hair? This is his most distinguishing feature along with his non-human eyes, after all.
I agree with your post so much. Why change the face? Hard to get attached when the very face structure of main character changes so much. Just leave the TW2 structure already. No need for changes. Please... This model was PERFECT imo. Thankfully there is still time for changes, not sure if they will read our thoughts though. :(

I had no problems with other character's looks though. Well, maybe Yen's hair could be a bit darker. :)

I tried to sleep, but I kept thinking about this first look of Ciri and Yennefer, and the more I thought about it, the more it began to annoy me.

Most of the characters who have been imported from the books are of minor importance when compared to these two - Geralt and Dandelion possibly being the exceptions - at least when speaking of their respective appearances. In the case of Geralt and Dandelion, I actually never received a very clear picture of the two as I was reading the books, and except for Geralt's milky white hair, nothing really felt very important was still featured in the games. The white hair they managed to capture in TW1, but for some reason screwed it up in TW2. It's getting better in TW3, but now we have a beard that seems to contrast this whiteness. Any way, my point being that CDPR can employ quite a lot of artistic licence and free interpretation when it comes to portraying most of this universe's already established characters (changing Triss's hair from chestnut to dark red is fine, for example; it doesn't bother me and it actually looks very good in game). So far, they've done a very good job at it, if you ask me, and I only have minor remarks overall. This does not apply to Ciri and Yennefer.

Ciri has ashen hair, and she has remarkable emerald green eyes. These two features are frequently described throughout the novels and to change either would be a disgrace. Ciri also doesn't have the face of some sort of runway model and would not bother with putting on lipgloss - and probably not eyeliner either - before an adventure. While not completely indifferent to her own appearance, she is not vain enough to bother with make-up while out adventuring in the wilderness. The way she is designed in this trailer irks me; her face is that of some supermodel and it doesn't suit untamed nature at all. I'll probably cry if they turn out to have removed her scar, as well.

Yennefer has raven-black, unbelievably long and curly hair, and she has eyes the colour of violet, neither of which is featured in this trailer. Her hair here is instead much shorter than described in the books, and the eyes look more brown than violet. As with Ciri, these outward features are frequently featured in the books and play an important part in the appearance of her character.

These designs are of course not necessarily final, and things might change down the road, but it irritates me to no end (quite suddenly) that they've made such blatant errors - or worse: conscious changes - to two of the most important characters in the witcher saga. I really hope that we'll see an improvement as the game evolves. They really should take more inspiration from the fantastic art of JustAnoR.

I need to see more, and of course we're a long way out. My initial impressions:

-Geralt looks great, sans that dark-ish beard. The dark stands out a bit too much. His features and hair are wonderful.

-Triss looks meeeeeowww lovely. But I have to be honest here. Her outfit in TW2 was impeccable, and I'm not sure this
one is as special. Need to see all of it.

-Yeneffer. I was sure CDPR would go with a more haughty, glamorous look for her, so I'm a bit surprised at what I saw.
She's pretty, and from what I can tell her outfit looks nice. She needs raven black hair though. I hear that was the case in the books...

-All the witchers and Dandy look good.

-Ciri. Well, from what I saw, Ciri looked a bit generic and maybe too much glam for her, even all grown up. Need to see more. I certainly picture her differently though. More of a tomboy.

Here comes my nitpick: the armor designs are so good in TW2 I'm not sure they can meet that standard again. I see nothing in the trailer that shows otherwise. Better than the rest of of the industry? Sure. TW2 levels? Not so sure. There was a unique blend of macro elements and micro detail that made all the clothing and armor stand out in that game.

I think Yennifer looks surprisingly young. The trailer makes her look a teenager. I was expecting something along Sile and Philppa.

But that could be a false impression since we barely see her.

I wish Triss would let her hair flow like TW1 ,but I guess flowing hair is Yennifer's department.

Ciri makes me want to play as her.

That is some sick "The Witcher 2"-style armor design, hope there is more of that for Geralt as well.
